Bush jeers at challengers for 'measuring the drapes'

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-2421893,00.html

A DEFIANT George Bush yesterday taunted Democrats who, he said, were so sure of victory in the November 7 Congressional elections that they were already “measuring their drapes” for their new offices in the seat of power on Capitol Hill.

The President used a White House press conference to reiterate his view that, contrary to “conventional wisdom”, he remained confident that the Republicans would retain control of both Houses of Congress.

Opinion polls show the Democrats well-placed to win the 15 seats they need to seize control of the 435-member House of Representatives for the first time since 1994. They also appear to be within striking distance of taking the six seats they need to form a majority in the Senate. But Mr Bush said: “In Washington people have already determined the outcome of the election, like it’s over even before the people actually start voting. You know, we got some people dancing in the end zone here in Washington, DC. They got them measuring their drapes.”

He was referring to comments made by Nancy Pelosi, the Democrats’ leader in the House who is in line to become the next Speaker if her party wins power. In a recent interview she discussed the prospects of taking control, saying: “I’ll have any suite I want.”

16. He couldn't even get that line right.
Why would they measure the drapes?
Wouldn't they measure for drapes, or measure the windows for drapes?
