How many votes does it take to defeat Alito? |
|
And how many do we have now?

Can't be a tie, or Dickhead would get the deciding vote.
Most Dems can hope for on their own is 44, since one jerkoff has defected. They need at least 7 repubs to side with them. Better chance of getting hit with lightning unfortunately.
They only need 40 to Fillibuster, so long as they go along with the idea and 5 or more don't defect on that.

2. Well, the current official tally is 53-25. Still a long way to go. |

|
Dems voting "No" Baucus (MT) Biden (DE) Boxer (CA) Clinton (NY) Dodd (CT) Durbin (IL) Feingold (WI) Feinstein (CA) Harkin (IA) Inouye (HI)* Kennedy (MA) Kerry (MA) Kohl (WI) Leahy (VT) Mikulski (MD) Murray (WA) Nelson, Bill (FL) Obama (IL) Reed (RI) Reid, H. (NV) Salazar (CO) Schumer (NY) Stabenow (MI) Wyden (OR)
Dems leaning "No" TBA
Dems voting "Yes" Johnson, Tim (SD)* (following the Daschle "winning" formula of going along to, erm, get along. "Smart" move Tim.) Nelson, Ben (NE)
Since then Jeffords has voted no.

4. A defeat takes 51 no's and we now have 25. BUT |
|
the Pubs have 53 yes which means the only way Alito can be defeated now is via fillibuster, and that takes 41 Senators to vote for it!
It's nOT looking good.

5. The Real Question Is In Getting To The Vote - Not The Vote Itself |
|
Alito might, or might not, be confirmable right now, but they are not going to vote on him right now and that little pictorial you see on the side of the C-Span screen is meaningless for the moment.
