Anyway, friends, I must bid you farewell for now..
..Just a quick note to say goodbye for now.

I am a freelance artist by trade. Several years ago I went out on my own and started my own firm. I am proud to say that until recently, I have enjoyed modest success.

But now, my little biz is not doing so well, and ever since Thanksgiving, I have not gotten a single piece of new work. Needless to say, my financial situation is in dire straits. Worse, my wife, who is my world, is beginning to share my frustration and guilt for having such a horrible few months.

It is as if the well has abruptly dried up. Therefore, I must admit to myself that I am primarily at fault for the recent floundering of my business. I think that a huge part of my problem is that I have become more and more obsessive about politics, and specifically, political blogging/editorializing, which often eats up the better portion of my day, and worse, allows my business to remain stagnant.

And so, I feel that I must force myself to say adieu until I have made some substantial progress in redesigning my website, getting some new clients, etc. I feel that doing this now is the only way to break the spell that has put my business in such peril.

I want to take this time to thank all of you at Democratic Underground, from member to Moderator, friend to foe, for making my experience and participation in this forum such a dynamic, inspirational, and educational place for someone as undeserving as me. This forum means so much to me that even as I write this, I fear that I won't be able to stand by what I feel is necessary for me to pull myself out of this downward spiral.

God bless all of you! I hope to come back soon..

Love,

CrackpotAmerica

5. I feel your pain
somewhat, anyway. DU/blogging/progressive activism is great for the soul but hard on the pocketbook if it dominates your time.

Good luck to you.

7. Good luck Crackpot...
I have always looked at DU as my second job. I must get my thoughts out. If they are credible, they will create some response, not just on DU, but hopefully in the corporate media somewhere, as well. There is a balance when we are dependent upon a job to survive. I try to post at least a couple of times a day, even when I work long days. It's my job.

10. And hugs to you too Crackpot. I wish you good luck in your work so
you can hurry back to us.

I know how you feel...not being able to control my interest in politics and the direction of our country. DU is the perfect outlet. Certainly watching cable doesn't help. Fortunately ..I'm retired and the only thing is I"m not accomplishing is creative cooking and many home repairs.

Good luck!

13. Good Luck to ya! and getting your business back on target.
Our political situation is so dire, it's easy to get sucked into trying to change things while our livlihood goes down the tank.

At some point something has to give...and your family and livlihood are more important.

Thanks for all your contributions...beware casually "stopping by" though or you will get sucked in again. :D It happens alot..

14. ...
It takes guts to admit to yourself things have become a problem.

But take comfort knowing your spiral was cause by fighting the good fight. It could have been crack and hookers!

I'll say good luck but part of me knows you won't need it.

18. Focus on your family and
then come back if you can. I also leave when I have to focus on my work. The politics can become an obsession. Do you have a website that you want to share with all of us? I'd like to see your work.

20. I don't think that that is appropriate for me to do..
I didn't post this hoping to get any outside help or anything.. In fact, I took down the link my signature for that very reason. (Which reminds me to take it off of my profile, too)

Whenever it is I can come back, I'll most likely try to buy some advertizing from DU.

Thanks for your interest, though. It means a lot!

I really have to go. As much as I am compelled to, I feel that I can't continue monitoring this thread (that's part of my problem!!) If one you doesn't mind, you could kick this thread in a few hours or so, so that the night shift can share in my gratitude.

Thanks so much!
