21st century American Revolution, if and when ? |
|
At the risk of being overly simplistic, my recollection is that the original American colonists had to begin experiencing some significant "economic discomfort" before the tensions with the King gave way to bullets. Of course, back then we didn't vote for the King or his representatives.
At this date in 2006, we have had at least 3 suspicious elections to deprive us of full representation. What will it take to provoke the American people to turn their tensions into the streets ? Or can the American people be thoroughly narcotized/bamboozled/intimidated enough to make them accept a dictatorship masquarading as one party government ? If this election is stolen, I truly wonder what it will take for patience to reach an end.

Witness the effect Katrina had on people's perceptions of environmental issues. Unfortunately we don't fix something till it breaks. The worst part is that it will be the people least responsible for all that is wrong who will suffer the most, as per usual...

I'd be overjoyed to just see a left-wing NRA and militias come about. It's the long overdue backlash movement that never seems to come. People keep getting false hopes during these elections. We're going for our 4th crapped election in a row.

Americans live far too comfortable lives to jeopardize them for any revolution. That goes for most Democrats also because the majority of Democrats are not on the Liberal wing of their party. The people will not take to the streets. Reality is a cruel mistress.
