They're bad because they are hypocrites.

The Republican Party has gained control of our government by using gay rights as a wedge issue to distract and divide the electorate in a way that caused middle-class Americans to vote against they're own interests. Gay bashing became the political wedge issue that carried Ohio in '04 and elected Republican majorities in both the House and the Senate. It helped elect a President that appointed judges that set back civil rights in general and gay rights in particular, nearly a generation.

It helped form a government and create an environment which condoned divisiveness and hatred.

As bad as all this is if it were created by evil people that really believed in this unholy cause, it is made all the worse by those who participated in this deception, who actually colluded with this evil, who were actually gay themselves.

It would be analogous to an African-American supporting the KKK or a Jew joining the Nazi party, it is that bad.

So now, as high ranking, closeted gay Republicans are outed, and ask for our sympathy, we may give it to them. But remember, our criticism of gay Republicans is not based on their sexual orientation, but is based on their outright hypocrisy.
