Poll question: What can we do right now to win in November?
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 08:46 PM by tinfoilinfor2005
Lots of hysterical posts lately regarding the upcoming elections. This is the time that we should be deciding what WE can do to help win this election.

I have seen a lot of negative crying and whining posts that think we can't do it, even though we are favored to win.

So tell us, what will make the difference?

2. Because money is tight right now, I signed up to go and and
hit the phones next week from 12 to 2 most days. Get out the vote.

5. You are doing the most difficult thing that works the best.
Studies say that phone work is the most effective; not so much that it prompts the voter as to who they should vote for, but because people are reminded of the date they should be going out to vote. In other words, it puts a boot up the butt of those people who are too lazy to get out there and vote.

4. GOTV
$$$ helps as well if you can.
Everyone can make a few phone calls or knock on doors.

They will need drivers on Election day taking people to vote running meals for workers etc...

6. I wonder about the phone calls and the door knocking.
I am sure that millions of Americans feel exactly as I do. I do not want anybody calling me on the phone who is not my friend or who does not have specific business with me. That is what no call lists are all about and that is why people like them. The same thing goes for door knocking. It had better be a friend or UPS delivering a package. I don't want JWs, salespeople, or others pounding on my door no matter how good the reason. Like I said, I am sure I am not alone in feeling that way. So might phone calling and door knocking possibly be counterproductive and just piss off people?

7. I have experience in this area, and I completely agree with you.
I was never comfortable with telephoning strangers or even the people in my own party. But I would start out telling them that I was just reminding them it was voting day in case they had forgotten, and it was important to get out there to vote, regardless of who they were casting their vote for. And could I be of assistance to offer them a ride, or baby sitting service, or whatever. To this day no one has taken me up on my offer for a ride or sitting service. But I have been thanked several times by people who forgot that it was voting day, and who promised right then to go to the polls. And would you believe it? In the afternoon I worked the polls, and indeed those folks did show up.

9. Well, be glad you are in Wisconsin...otherwise I'd be calling you.
I can't think what if... All I can think is I have to do something. And donating money pays for the phones that other people call on so... :hi:

8. Other: Everybody Who Can, Put Up A Wall O' Politics At Work.
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 09:37 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
One of my cube walls is called my "Wall O'Politics". I can't put anything overly sensitive up there, but I generally put funny but informative cartoons that I get from here up there, along with any short news stories that contain facts people might not get elsewhere, real pictures that sum things up by the photo itself, or other collages I put together myself in word/photoshop. It has been an amazingly effective communication tool since I started it after the '04 election. People are constantly stopping by my cube, and will always look to see if I have something new there. Many get a kick out of it, and even republicans have gotten some good stuff from it.

But most importantly, it has started a COUNTLESS amount of genuine conversations that were the catalyst for me being able to inform somebody of the truth. That opportunity has given rise to several republicans giving serious pause and thought to some issues, and I know for certain that several of them will be voting for the Democrat this time.

It is a small thing, I know, but I still love having it and think everyone who can should have their very own "Wall O'Politics". You'd be amazed how many genuine conversations it will start.
