MN-06 Bachman: "the Lord says: 'Be submissive, wives ' "
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 12:13 AM by longship
From Daily Kos, Repuke Congressional candidate in MN-6, Michelle Bachmann, thinks that women must be submissive to their owners... oops, I mean husbands.

Read about it here.

Let's see Patty Wetterling play back at Ms. Bachmann.

Oh, and by the way, there's still time to give to Patty Wetterling's campaign.

1. I Used To Read The Genesis Bible Quote To My Feminist Girlfriend When
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 12:16 AM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
I wanted to rile her up.

It was pretty much the following:

The punishment of woman: In pain and travail thou shalt bring forth children. Your desire Shall be to thy husband and He shall rule over thee.

I used to have fun seeing her reactions to that, since she was also a born again christian and all. Oh what fun times we had, her and I. But that was a longggg time ago LOL

3. LOL!
As a feminist who also loves a smart ass, I bet your girlfriend didn't know whether to laugh or kick your ass when you did that. :D My husband tries to say stuff like this but he can't do it without laughing his ass off.

4. She'd Beat Me Up Pretty Good For It. But Then We'd Be Riled Up, And
would then get really passionate. We had a weirddddddd relationship. She was a bit of a psycho actually. But then, so was I. Made for some interesting times. We did take our wiseass tendencies in lighthearted fashion, however. (Except for the night we broke up. Mannnnnnn did I take the cake with my be all end all wiseass comment. She wasn't laughin LOL)

10. A born again Christian feminist?
So I'm guessing not all born agains are fundamentalist pieces of shit? (See I really don't have all that much experience with born agains, I think I've only met one or two)

24. I'm #3. Nice to meet you!
And I'm not a piece of shit at all :) Someone else mentioned Jane Fonda, but President Carter is also a born-again Christian, as is Millard Fuller (founder of Habitat for Humanity), Jim Wallis (of Sojourners magazine), Al Gore (of Al Gore), Al Sharpton, the socialist guy who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance, and many more famous people.

At LEAST 40% of us vote for the Democrat each time, sometimes more. Most born-again Christians are actually Democrats, in fact...but people get this confused with the term "white evangelicals" that the media uses.

26. Well that is refreshing.
Like I said, I don't have a whole lot of experience with born agains, and the few ones I've met are total fundie nuts. I must admit that I'm very happy to learn that such is not the lot of all religious people.

I myself am a faithful Catholic (though I don't practice as much as I should), so I'm happy to know I'm not a dying a breed.

2. She comes off fake to me
Bachmann seems to greatly exaggerate her faith and at times comes off as phony. She's too much of a nut to be in Congress.

6. Paul not the Lord
or someone writing on behalf of Paul

Epistle Of Saint Paul To The Ephesians
Chapter 5
21 Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ. 22 Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord: 23 Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it.

12. I've always thought Paul was
much tougher on the husbands than on the wives, to be honest.

The narrative says he gave everything for 'his own', helped them, and died for them, still loving them, even though most of 'his own' rejected him and ultimately decided that his death was the better choice.

I knew few husbands that are like that.

18. Jesus had women following him, literally, to his death
They supported him with time and money. They mourned him at the cross and watched for him at the tomb after the apostles denied him and while they were in hiding for their lives. And then the women were mocked when they reported back to the apostles that they had seen him again.

That sounds like being active to me...not submissive.

15. The last poll I saw had Wetterling up, but not by enough to make
me relax. MN 6th CD is fairly conservative and there were some strange things going on with the vote totals election night 2 years ago (Lydia Leftcoast has a screen shot of it). I think everyone is nervous about this one.

16. Hi, dflprincess. Thank you for that update and inside look.
Well, all I can do from here is cross my fingers. Bachmann sounds to me like a really frightening soul. Wetterling comes off as a true problem-solver. I watched the debate with the candidates in this race on C-Span. I'd take Wetterling first and foremost, but I'd settle for the young independent guy before I'd even look at Bachmann.

I'll be rootin' for ya in this one.

17. Yep..this is a nerve-wracking contest. Bachman is the worst of the worst.
She is a hate-filled bigot who wants nothing more than to cram her Talibornagain way of life down the throats of our children.

God..PLEASE don't let this depicable animal win any more power.

It is from Al Mohler, head of the Southern Baptist Seminary.

It's sad and scary to watch the convention inch SB congregations closer and closer to a cult.
I don't see how this will end well. :(

25. I loved when the Christian marriage books ended up in the BDSM section
on Amazon's site. I worked for Amazon's editorial dept. The automated process that I was cross-checking put them there and I always left them there! Because frankly, I thought that's where they belong.
