Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 04:37 AM by Bluebear
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military on Thursday announced the deaths of five U.S. troops in fighting in
Iraq, raising to 96 the number of American forces killed this month.

The four Marines and one Navy sailor all died in fighting in Anbar province, a hotbed of the Sunni insurgency against U.S. troops and their Iraqi government allies.

The latest deaths raised to 96 the number of U.S. forces killed in October, the highest toll for any month this year and on course to surpass the October 2005 total of 96.

Before that the deadliest months were January 2005, at 107; November 2004 at 137 and April 2004, at 135.

1. Sweet Jesus we're being slaughtered in Iraq.
The world's mightiest fighting force is being eaten alive by ragtag Arabs. Holy Mary, Mother of God, let American voters go in droves to their precincts a week from Tuesday and cast a democratic ballot to cut this Vile Republican Hydra off at the heads - all nine of them (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Snow, Limbaugh, Gonzales, Hannity, Coulter).
Aquarius - you cant come soon enough.

3. US Troops are expendable in this War for Oil.
The prize is apparently worth many more thousands of US Troops. Iraqi deaths and injuries? Not much of a concern. :nopity:

4. First mistake is thinking of them as 'ragtag Arabs'. The dumbest thing
anyone has done since day one is think that these are some backwards thirdworld hut-dwelling ignorants. They have a civilizatin thousands of years older than we do. They've fought this occupation many times. They've always won.

6. The war-mongering xenophobic pubs never learn.
The smirk that was ALWAYS on Bush's face when he talked about foreigners, be it Arabs, Persians, or Mexicans, told the story. You're right - there are TVs in the middle east! And (I know I'll get in trouble for this) white Americans seem to be the least adept at spotting racism, whether it's on the giving or the receiving end.

5. if the serious injury totals maintain the ratio of 5 to 1
with deaths... that 500 to 600 soldiers a month that are missing limbs or have brain injuries from
IEDs that will last a lifetime. That's 7200 a year or more. If, as was previously announced by the chimperor himself, we are there for 10 years, that's a casualty total of 70,000. Or about half of all the armed forces we have in Iraq today. No army can sustain those casualty figures without serious consequences to the very integrity and continued existence of the army itself. As Abe Lincoln once said during our civil war, "It's like shoving flies across the room".

We are losing this war. Whatever becomes of Iraq and it's oil, it won't be up to us to determine or even have a say. This is a disaster and it might even be the beginning of the end of American economic and military power, just as Afghanistan was for the Soviets. We have already gone from the world's largest creditor to the world's largest debtor, and in many many other categories we have slipped from the top ranks of industrialized nations to positions near third world countries.

I cry for our soldiers and for our nation.

9. Crap, I just thought of something else...

4 a day or so... that's just a whole lot of death notification details knocking on doors.

As someone who answered such a knock ( I was the only one home when they came to tell my family about my brother )... I really feel for these guys that have to do that. Usually two officers... and I'm guessing that each and every army base and marine base in the US is sending these guys out once ot twice every month, maybe a few are doing it once a week. That's just got to wear a person down.

8. My latest LTTE is dedicated to these brave guys.RIP
It Runs today.May we find justice for these unnecessary deaths in international court someday.

Our president says he never meant "stay the course"-even though this has been a consistent component of his,and his cohorts',rhetoric.Almost three thousand soldiers are dead, while the Republican Party tries to backtrack and deny.Twenty thousand soldiers are wounded and maimed, missing limbs, horribly burned, and scarred in their souls-while Republicans now say they are looking at a timeline-the same thing they crucified John Murtha over.It is election time, and the Republicans are paying lip service to the disgruntled masses.Too late,Republicans-your lying, amoral ways betray the Christianity you so vehemently profess to practice. The number of dead, injured soldiers betray your "desire" for peace and love among men.The TRUE numbers of poor, homeless, and struggling people in America betray your "desire" to help the poor. The sheer numbers of sick, uninsured people in this country-with our emergency rooms bursting at the seams, betray your "desire" to help the sick. You have betrayed your Christian base,Republicans, and now only cater to the super wealthy, who have also sold their souls for the almighty dollar.I hope the Democrats conquer the House and Senate this November, and investigate every one of these elected officials who have profited from this insane, immoral war.It is early voting time.Let these "servants of the people" be accountable for their crimes.
