And Now for Today's segment of "Bush Talking Out His Ass!!"

I was surfing through the AP headlines and caught this little ditty... weird how all of a sudden Bush is turning his back on Big Auto.

http://apnews.excite.com/article/20060126/D8FCC65O0.html

Bush 'Reluctant' to Bail Out Automakers

<SNIP>President Bush is offering no encouragement to any U.S. automobile companies that might be thinking about turning to the federal government for a financial bailout.

<SNIP>He said companies need to manufacture "a product that's relevant" and that his administration has discussed new fuel technologies with the nation's top two auto makers.

"As these automobile manufacturers compete for market share and use technology to try to get consumers to buy their product, they also will be helping America become less dependent on foreign sources of oil," Bush said.

<SNIP>Bush suggested his sympathies are more with the workers than the corporations, saying his administration would focus on retraining laid-off employees.

"This is going to be a very troubling time for workers and their families," Bush said, adding that companies had an obligation to assist employees who are laid off.

He also called on GM, Ford and others to be careful about backing away from fully meeting pension obligations. "That's not how the market works and that's not corporate responsibility as I see it," he said. "I'm very firm on seeing to it that this government hold people to account."

I can't decide which is more laugh out loud funny:

a) The fact that he has been trying to get Ford and GM to produce more fuel efficient/hybrid cars - as if he and his big oil cronies haven't been keeping down hybrid/hydrogen fuel cell technology for years.

b) His empathy for the workers - blaming the Company for their situation even though he cheerfully signed in legislation making it harder for these workers to declare Bankruptcy and easier for Corporations to file Chapter 11 and gut their workers pensions.

c) That he's a strong proponent of accountability.

He has been trying to get Ford and GM to produce more fuel efficient/hybrid cars? LoL sure he has! I remember the Carter days, when vehicles got smaller and most people where consciously aware of the fact that oil was going to run out in 30 to 40 years.
What the F&*% happend!

7. Welcom to the DU fairandunbalanced!
I agree... this country has known all along that we were in danger of running out of oil... but - just like the Hurricane Katrina warnings and the 9/11 warnings - the government chose to ignore it. :eyes:
