US will have to fight 'dirty' in new wars
THE US could defeat any enemy with overwhelming power but any new conflict would involve more brute force and civilian casualties than in Iraq, the top US general said today.

Asked about any potential threat from North Korea, Marine General Peter Pace, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he did not know the intent of the Pyongyang leadership but the US military could cope with any potential enemy.

"It is true that our units that are here at home are not fully equipped, as they would be if there wasn't a war going on," Gen Pace said at the Pentagon.

"But none of our potential enemies should miscalculate the capacity of this nation to generate overwhelming combat power, tomorrow, to defend our national interests."

2. is this guy (Pace) a real end-times fundy?
I've heard a few of his stmts, and I think I remember a few that gave me pause and set off fundy alerts inside my head... but I'm not sure.

3. Why fight any war in the first place?
There are alternatives. There are also reasons why some countries think they need to go to war. Work on alleviating those reasons.

Most countries have a court system and do not tolerate autonomous groups doing their own thing very well. Why not use the same model world wide? We already have the UN and the World Court. Why don't we use them for peace keeping instead of using war.

The good general may want to read a history book and check.

5. Notice his last statement.
"But none of our potential enemies should miscalculate the capacity of this nation to generate overwhelming combat power, tomorrow, to defend our national interests."

"Overwhelming combat power" is just another way of saying that all we have left in our "bag of tricks" is nukes.

We have used up our conventional forces and until we re-build them, we'll just have to depend on the "big ones" to defend America.
