Why does MSNBC spend three valuable morning hours on Don Imus?
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 06:29 AM by Radio_Lady
What a doofus! I wish every guest would boycott his show. I can't believe what he's saying to his wife on the air... my God! That's after referring to Terry Bradshaw as a fag, blasting his crew for a teleprompter malfunction, and making an off the wall comment to Kelly O'Donnell about someone being Jewish.

for decades and mostly listen to jazz and classical music on radio.

But I was just up early, so I flipped it on this morning.

I guess MSNBC is not doing very well except for "Countdown" with Keith Olbermann -- at least that's what Don Imus said (!).

41. They have him exclusively
And are already paying for his radio show. It's cheap programming that has a following.

I saw an amusing stat the other day that Joey the Scar, following Olbermann, has a 67 percent dropoff in viewers. In other words, two thirds of Keith's audience switches channels the second the Scar comes on.

43. Yes, I must admit it's cheap programming. MSNBC isn't getting great
numbers -- Imus talks about it constantly in such a derogatory way -- but Keith Olbermann has a good following, I guess.

It will be interesting to see what happens to this channel if and when the Democrats get on a winning streak. Maybe Don Imus will hang up his cowboy hat and retire to his rocking chair. He reminds me of a sour pickle...

In peace,

47. Oh, gawd - I hate Charles. And put him with Imus and the bald headed guy
and that is all the reason I need to make sure the TV is never turned to MSNBC before 9 am. Imus is senile, Charles a repug thug and the bald headed guy is a racist, homophobic Neanderthal. Totally tasteless show, IMHO.

Even Imus' guests come off as lame on his show. Even people I like bomb. Imus never asks the relevant questions, acts silly, makes outrageous statements and generally wastes oxygen. People you think who have a backbone end up pandering to the cowboy's ego to keep from being trashed after they are off the air. It doesn't help - he still sucker punches them when they can't defend themselves. And the giggling, oh lawdy, the inane giggling.

9. I've wondered that myself
My best guess is that he's probably 'grandfathered' in, as part of his contract.
He was one of the first 'personalities' on MSNBC, during the Clinton administration. To be honest, Clinton had somewhat won him over back then, (or Imus was just pandering) so he wasn't as difficult to listen to then as he is now.
I totally agree with you, though. Doofus is the perfect word!

I don't watch it, but I always thought that a national news outlet could make better use of it's time. How many people can an old, ego-inflated, cowboy hat wearing blowhard attract? Before Bush took office I'd watch parts of it now and again but it was always almost painful to see his staff kneel at his feet like that, calling him "sir" and kissing up constantly. There's just something sick about it.

Raising money for the Hospital in Texas, combating autism, other childrens health issues, green products,

33. Thanks, PeanutBrittle (yummy you!) Don Imus is plugged in with
a lot of charities. But what a childish and churlish human being he has become!

On the record, if anyone of my three husbands (!!!) talked to me like he speaks to Deirdre -- either on the air or off -- I would think twice about my marriage. She seems to be a beautiful, talented, and extraordinary woman who could have a wonderful life with a loving husband. Maybe they do love each other -- but this is a strange kind of affection...

By the way, I found several items of her green product line in Linens 'n' Things. Good to see that!

Appreciate your comments.

PS. I love Macadamia Brittle from Hawaii! It is just about the best thing since sliced bread!

I do like Imus's stance on ending the war, and he does give air time to many Democrats. He likes Obama, Ford, Kerry and others. He hates bush, but still he's a rather disagreeable fellow. I use his show as background noise when I wake up too early. It usually puts me back to sleep. BTW, he hates Barton for holding up the Autism legislation. He's not too kind to Rush either.

He's still an asshole IMO.

But I think you're more accurate! It's like a train wreck!

He breaks about every rule I ever learned in radio and TV class about the art of performance.

He's laughing all the way to the bank...

man with a pea sized brain and a beautiful wife who must adore him -- or else, how could she stand him?

Chewing gum all the time, even when he climbs in bed?

Gawd, what some people call a life makes me scratch my head.

In any event, this is the last call on this thread.

I'm on to other topics, thank goodness.

By the way, how much do you think Don Imus has spent on plastic surgery?

67. Last call: You really have to read this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3080530/

(2003 Article)

Don Imus and his brother Fred both claim to have had parents, a mother and a father. I have never seen them. Have you? Parental absence coupled to the Imus brothers’ pathological behavior fetishes, have led to a thesis that both spawned spontaneously in dust clots accumulated behind the laundromat dryers where Don would spend many of his formative years.

As nearly as the date can be fixed, Don’s birth - however it occurred - took place in the late 18-hundreds making him a contemporary of such noted Americans as Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, Chester A. Arthur and Grover Cleveland... all U.S. Presidents.

Don spent the normal twelve years in public school and emerged with no formal education ... a product of automatic social promotion. His secondary school experience was limited to carrying a cracked, faded rubber in his wallet and binding a female classmate to a tree with electrician’s tape. He graduated with no honors and no skills. Requiring neither, a broadcasting career seemed a natural for the young Imus and advancements came quickly.

Now widely acclaimed, Imus has been featured on NBC’s “Today” show, the ABC programs “Prime Time Live” and “20/20”, and on CBS’ “48 Hours” and “60 Minutes.” He has been a guest of Charlie Rose, David Letterman, and of particular note, Larry King, in shameless, mutual ass-kissing marathons. In addition, Don has been, and continues to be, a subject of countless, pointless print articles. Time magazine once named Don one of the 25 most influential people in America. More recently, Don appeared on the cover of Newsweek magazine in a feature article titled, “The Importance of Being Imus.” Don’s loyal radio staff hopes they will soon see him similarly featured on milk cartons.
