Canada Complains, And Finally, RNC Will Pull Ad Attacking Ford
Click here for the whole story.

<snip>

A controversial Republican National Committee advertisement attacking Tennessee Senate Candidate Harold Ford Jr. is apparently being pulled.

The RNC's decision comes after some critics suggested the ad had racist overtones -- implying that Ford, a black man, was interested in a scantily dressed white woman -- and after the Republican candidate for Senate, Bob Corker, called the ad "tacky" and "over the top" and asked that it be dropped. The RNC didn't listen, though.

Instead, the RNC's decision to remove the ad apparently is coming after it caused an international incident with our neighbor to the north.

1. I'm sorry? I thought they explicitly denied it had to do with Canada.
And why should it? The race baiting's worse, and no Senator's required to cowtow to any foreign country, let alone one as weak as Canada.

2. In addition to playing the race card... the ad was a
tremendous insult to Canada..
"After all, they're not doing anything" - Are they, or are they not in Afganistan?

3. .
Exactly, as are for example the French.
All of them were willing to make sacrifices when they thought it was about going after the real terrorists.

5. .
I know that the Repubs showed some really dirty ads in other states, but considering the spots of the last days, I'd say that the dirtiest ads are those in TN. Dirty, racist and irresponsible and probably unthinkable in most western democracies.
I hope so much that there are enough in TN who see through this bullshit and vote the bastard out.

6. We can't risk pissing-off Canada right before draft-dodgers start fleeing north.
We need their good will, or else they won't extradite draft-dogers back to America.

That's my own, personal opinion.

7. Scantily clad white women as opposed to 16 year old pages
I'd vote for Ford if I were only a resident of TN. Republicans would fuck up a pile of dog crap.

12. conservatives
are saying the Michael J. Fox ad is worse.

I don't agree with that, and have written about Rush Limbaugh's comments. Just wanted to pass along the mindset of some on the right.

Racism = good
Embryonic research = evil

8. Pulled? Yeah Right...The Next One's Already Rolled Out
Lesson To Democrats: Make commercials that get attention...the slezier the better...facts be damned...codewords included...the corporate media will do the rest.

The wink/nod game between the RNC & Corker gave that first ad several days of free play around the country and followed up by the "whisper" campaign about Harold being a "playboy". Now the seed's been planted and the next round of ads will play further on the racist aspects of the first ad...mission accomplished.

Once again, there'll be another ad by the RNC...or possibly a 527 that is another campaign finance situation...Corker will feign outrage and claim to call for the ad to be pulled...the RNC will A.) pretend they can't control an ad they pay for (note to Mehlmann...cancel the check...works every time) or B.) if this is a 527, to also feign outrage. Then there's the 2 days of passing the buck while the ad not only plays locally but gets national attention as well. Soon a couple thousand in an ad buy gets you millions in exposure. Clever...and a game the Repugnicans have really used to their advantage.

The shelf life on a political ad is not long...especially an attack ad. It loses its bite if its left running too long...all we're seeing is a refreshing of the slime.

9. Aren't they rolling out a new ad?
That's probably the read reason. This one's played its course - after being endlessly repeated on the news for free.
