Girls dressed as Captain Underpants sent home
LONG BEACH, N.Y. - Captain Underpants may be a superhero, but he isn't welcome at one suburban New York school.

Three 17-year-old girls were told to leave Long Beach High School when they showed up on Superhero Day dressed as the subject of the best-selling children's books.

The girls wore beige leotards and nude stockings under white briefs and red capes.

Principal Nicholas Restivo says he knows they weren't naked, but it appeared that way, so he sent them home to change.

2. Those are great books.
My son devours them.

As silly as this incident was, I can understand the spot the principal was in. Tough call either way.

13. Here's a picture I stole from the Lounge thread on this subject:

I have to (reluctantly) agree with the Principal. I don't think he was wrong to send them home to change. While I admire their creativity, those costumes look pretty realistic, if you know what I mean. If they had chosen anything other than flesh-toned, they would have probably been alright.

16. No more revealing than the average color/winter guard uniform.
I fail to see what the big deal is.

19. yeah, I don't see what the big deal is either
If they're going to send them home to change I guess they'll have to scrap whatever cheerleading program they have.

Silly.

17. well...
they don't look any more revealing than leotards used in modern dance performances. You'd think bodysuits would not shock people anymore, what with the ample opportunity for much more provocative displays. It's more mischevous than truly naughty IMO. I'm sure the students all got a good laugh while the fun lasted. But they were pushing the limits...LOL

14. I think those costumes are just fine.
They do not look naked at all. They look like....flesh-colored suits. They do not appear any more naked than Slim Goodbody.
Maybe I am just not uptight about flesh tones.

20. While principal Mark Foley sent the girls home...
brecause of their choice of Halloween costume, Foley also took issue with the Halloween costume of one male student. Pulling the boy aside, Foley crticised his "Tarzan" costume, telling his that the loincloth was far too large and covered too much.

Principal Foley was unavailalbe for comment.
