Ohio GOP Smears Al Franken In Press Release With Doctored Photo, Fabricated...
Ohio GOP Smears Al Franken In Press Release With Doctored Photo, Fabricated Quote

Yesterday, the Ohio Republican Party sent out a news release (full text here) http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/ohiobrown.pdf attacking Rep. Sherrod Brown (D) for enlisting the support of comedian Al Franken:

It is not surprising that Sherrod Brown is enlisting the help of a Hollywood liberal, who like him, is so far out of the mainstream of Ohio values. What is troubling is that Brown would solicit support from someone Franken who compared conservatives to Nazis “who should drink poison and die.”

The quote used in the news release is taken from Bernard Goldberg book, 110 People Who Are Screwing Up America, in an alleged interview between Goldberg and Franken. But in his book, Goldberg makes it clear that the exchange is completely fictional. The Ohio Republican Party represented it as fact.

The news release was accompanied by this photograph, showing Franken dressed up like a baby bunny, wearing adult diapers and clutching a fluffy white teddy bear.

Andy Barr, director of Franken’s Midwest Values PAC, confirmed, “The picture is a fake.” The Ohio Republican Party used a 2004 AP photo of Franken for the doctored image:

1. Lowdown dirty tricks-how low will they wallow?
Unreal. And the ad will come out, they'll make a little 'mea culpa' stink, but it will already be out there with news (?) programs repeating it ad nauseum. We're on to them; I hope we're not the only ones.

No seriously? What a pile of shit that is? Do they really think folks would believe that was true and not some prank?

They've got nothing! If they're so fantastic, why aren't they touting all of their accomplishments and putting their best foot forward? Because they've got NOTHING!

Instead, they want to motivate people to vote based on hate and fear. Not issues. Not substance. Not argument or ideas. Just hate and fear.

(edited because I need to go back to typing school...ooops!)

5. You nailed it! They have nothing to run on, have accomplished
nothing, so all they're left with is dirt to smear their opponents. So what if they have to fabricate that?

6. Just when you think they've reached rock bottom...
They find new lows. But I guess when you can't win on issues, what else are you going to do? Republicanism should be treated as a mental disorder.

9. Here's what
Back when Bush still legend, Rove worked his plan and 9/11 was fresh in the mind, people didn't think quite right and would fall for this crap. With time and exposure this junk is not only ineffectual, if not funny in a kind of "are you serious" way, but obviously the product of the desperate empty of ideas and borderline deranged.

Attack ads ONLY" turn off" moderate Democrats!!

FACT!

Republicans love attack ads...(unless they are directed at them and then they they bitch & moan screaming unfair democrats - and then the frighten Dem's politely back-off) ... Republicans though, NEVER back-off, Republicans know that attack ads are effective and WIN ELECTIONS! (And why the republicans are spending at least 60 million dollars on new negative attack ads, all across the country)...

AND to top it all off ---- Wimpy-assed Democrats get turned-off by attack ads - and don't vote...They don't vote...instead of voting, the idiot moderate democrats get turned off and refuse to vote…What fucking pin-heads!!!

Republicans love it that mousy Dem’s won’t vote and get “turned-off! While Republicans love and NEED attack ads. Republicans will make up, lie, distort, smear anything it takes to destroy their democratic opponent - They don't focus on nothing else but winning, fighting to the very end and destroying! Most Dem's aren't up to or prepared for that kind of campaigning and fighting...(and the Republicans know it).

That's all the republicans can ever run on...surely NOT republican ideology, republicans must and need to pretend to care about democratic issues when running for office during campaigns. Always. Even Bush ran twice on democratic issues,….health care, Social Security, worker concerns, wages, pension, benefits, the environment, balance budget, etc… All Democratic issues!

All while running vicious attack ads on their democratic opponents character – Because character attacks (swift boating) are extremely effective, its what people pay attention to, it’s what wins election for republicans…

And one thing EVERY Democratic candidate running can ALWAYS count on is Republican attack ads – on a democrats character.

11. Lies, lies, lies...and the lying liars.
Uh..what to say to that really. The adults are back in charge. They brought back honour and dignity.
I hope some of the Repubs with their family values are disgusted by that picture. I would be if I got sent something like this.

And yeah, I hope they get sued.
