Mexico & 27 other OAS nations oppose plans to build the fence.
Another triumph in diplomacy by BushCorp. Is there any part of the world that isn't pissed off at us?

MEXICO CITY – Mexico, supported by 27 other nations, made a declaration at the Organization of American States on Wednesday, slamming U.S. plans to build hundreds of miles (kilometers) of fence on its southern border.

The declaration, read out at the OAS headquarters in Washington, said the barriers would not solve the immigration problem and urged the U.S. government to rethink its position, according to press releases from the OAS and Mexican foreign ministry.

The 28 nations express “deep concern regarding the decision adopted by the United States of America to build and extend a wall on its border with Mexico, considering it to be a unilateral measure that goes against the spirit of understanding,” it said in the declaration, which was read out by Mexico's Ambassador Alejandro Garcia Moreno.

Mexican President Vicente Fox has called the plan “shameful” and compared it to the Berlin Wall.

The 27 nations that supported Mexico in Wednesday's declaration were Antigua, Argentina, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Granada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, San Kitts and Nevis, San Lucia, San Vicente, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Mexico has also said it will challenge the fence plans at the United Nations.

1. I also wonder if it is a 'Berlin wall'.
The Wall was built to keep people in, not out (tho they claimed it was to keep capitalist spies out of the GDR). Now they are pushing the new computer-chip passports, building a wall on the border of Mexico, but not doing anything about the (republican) employers who depend on illegal workers -- I wonder if they have a long-term plan for us.

2. I abhor the war and the whole "immigration" non-issue
but it would make sense for Latin America to oppose something intended to discourage their #1 jobs program.

3. while America could
certainly be more immigrant-friendly, what possible business is this of Mexico or any other country?

Isn't this an internal affair? Shouldn't other countries grant us the same right to run our affairs as they insist we do them?
