What if we do get screwed? |
|
It came up in another forum I muck around on. Someone wanted to know what we Democrats plan to do if we get screwed.
He didn't mean screwed by a Republican win. He meant screwed by a Democratic win. And I thought it was a good question. What do we do if the Democrats win.. .and nothign changes? What do we plan to do if they pull a Nixon and ramp up the Iraq war, especially?
I'm not trying to be a pessimist or anything here. I'm confident that we don't need to worry about this. But there's always the need for a "just in case"

1. Let's just win first, okay? |
|
We have a big enough challenge getting past all the Repubic dirty tricks and election-rigging and stealing. Let's just win first and enjoy that, please.

6. I don't expect huge changes |
|
I just want to stop the hemorrhaging and keep going until 2008. I doubt there will any ramping up of the war. I can't think of one Democrat who is advocating that.

7. If expectations are not what the media and others have been projecting |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 03:51 PM by WI_DEM
in the last many weeks it will be declared a "victory" for the GOP. For instance, lets say the Dems take control of the House by the bearest of margins 15 or 16 votes and lose the Senate, gain only 3 or 4 seats--then the expectations game will go into effect and the pundits will say that "the Republicans were gaining ground in the last days before the election and held off a huge democratic wave which had been predicted." That's why given the expectations I had in '04, I don't get too excited right now. The polls are good, but there only polls not votes.
if we get screwed by the dems then we work for more progressive candidates in 2008.

8. What do we do if a comet hits the planet? |

Neither are likely. Change happens by default, and simply not being this fucking administration will change everything.

Look on the bright side - this is the only post like this you're gonna see from me ;)
I'm not trying to be a pessimist or anything, just wondering what we should do if - gigantic if - things don't go as planned when we win. I know how it looks, but, hell, everyone has worries now and then.
