Vote for Corker , he's whiter...
It's that time of the election season. The Repubs turn to racism and homophobia. Most recall how the Repubs persuaded the MA judge to rule in favor of "gay marriage" just before the last election in 2004. What had some Democrats jumping up and down for joy was the perfect issue for the homophobes. That one decision was probably the catalyst that helped bring out the vote in those other 11 or 12 states that voted against "gay marriage" amendments.

Now, almost in an identical re-run, a judge in NJ has ruled in a similar fashion. Coincidentally, there is a tight Senate race in NJ and the Repubs probably believe this is the issue that will put NJ in their column and permit them to maintain control of the Senate? Since they have used the gay-marriage issue down South the last time, it seems they have decided to use the tried and true "racism' cards this time in the South, and save the "gay marriage" issues for other states, like Colorado, for example. Just an observation...

<snip>
Bob Corker, the Aryan Nation Republican candidate for US Senate from Tennessee, is now running ads about his African-American opponent Harold Ford and playing jungle drums in the background every time Ford's name is mentioned. And, as TPM Election Central notes, this time Corker can't blame the racist ad on Ken Mehlman and the Republican National Committee - this is one of Corker's own ads.

I was a bit surprised not seeing the usual GOP gay-bashing election ads this month, the stuff that always comes up the month before the election, since homophobia is usually the bigotry of choice for Republicans wanting to get out the vote. But this year is different. For some reason the GOP has decided to ignore the gays, and even Latinos, and go back to their tried and true traditional old racism.

It's rather shocking, and telling as to not just how desperate the Republicans are in the face of a Democratic tidal wive, but also how far the Republican party has not come in terms of dealing with its racist past.

1. Just a small point...not "the MA judge" or "a judge in NJ" -
it was the Supreme Court of both states that made the ruling. More than one judge in each case, after lengthy arguments and deliberations. I suppose it's possible that Repukes have such vast powers of persuasion that they can get the supreme courts of two different states to make distasteful rulings custom-timed to influence elections, but somehow it seems a bit unlikely. (P.S.: the rulings are NOT distasteful to me, but evidently they are to the OP.) :(

2. Several right wing sites say their democrats in the rural areas
will vote for a Republican white vs a Black democrat.

It sickens me.

3. Yeah, but there's no way to tell if those voters are still alive or if
they're only virtual voters.

The tricks are dirty, dirty, dirty.

4. And that's rural areas all over - not just in one region.
I'm telling ya...
