NO ONE who has a chronic disease EXPLOITS IT
I am the father of a child with type-1 diabetes. When people like Michael J. Fox help bring awareness that we could cure these terrible diseases, he is NOT EXPLOITING his disorder. And no one else is exploiting him.

The truth is, that the only way to get people to help is to make them aware of how terrible the disease can be. And when there is a cure within our lifetime, it's extremely frustrating for others to EXPLOIT THEIR RELIGION AGAINST THEIR POLITICIANS to keep them from voting for this research.

Even though the Congress passed the Stem Cell Research Bill, the idiot we call a president EXPLOITED HIS RELIGIOUS VOTING BASE by vetoing this monumental law.

This was exactly the nightmare scenario the founding fathers foresaw when they sought to keep religion out of politics.

And know this. I am a spiritual person. I have prayed about this issue. I have thought carefully about this issue. And the moral answer is to help the sick, to care for the sick, to seek for answers by using the minds we have.

Hundreds of thousands of stem cells, by products of the in vitro fertilization process, are destroyed each year. There are a few influential people who are saying it is more moral to destroy these cells than to use them to cure the TENS OF MILLIONS OF AMERICANS affected by chronic diseases and disorders. You tell me who is exploiting who.

1. Chronic illness that can be helped by stem cell research...
It is such an important issue.

I agree totally with your POV!

So much good could be done with those frozen embryos that will die no matter what is realistically going to be done with them.

The vast majority of them will never see the inside of a woman, much less get born.

So they're going to die......At least with stem cell research, their deaths will mean something.

So, which is better: Dying for no reason.......or dying to help the folks who are already here?

This is not rocket science, folks.........

2. Republicans are VERY strange animals
My Bush-supporting mother-in-law once was telling us about the round of layoffs going on at the bank where she worked. She insisted "the girls" were just standing around HOPING they'd lose their jobs because then they'd all that free unemployment money.

6. It's like saying you can't talk about it then
When you have a disease and you need to spread awareness about it and about what it's going to take to find a cure, then you take whatever platform you are given. Not doing so is like saying you don't care about finding a cure. It's not exploitation, it's a simple matter of communication to a large audience.

If there are those who are going to stand in my way of a cure for my son, I will take whatever platform I'm given to persuade others that they are wrong.

7. Absolutely...
Like I said about Michael J. How do you exploit a rich celebrity, anyway? Particularly one who understands EXACTLY what he's fight for?

4. It doesn't even make sense.
How could it be less than ethical to use a disease to draw attention to a disease?

The repukes exploitation of 9/11 never gets called.
