Hey, when did Limbaugh get religion anyway? |
|
Now, I've never actually listened to an entire Limbaugh broadcast, but it's kinda hard, if you hang out on DU, not to acquire some information (or maybe misinformation) about him. I know about his anal cysts, his adventuresw with oxycontin, his viagra vacation, etc. It seems I also remember from the earlier days that he wasn't particularly into the fundie schtick. When people started going off on Jeeeezuz on his show he kinda shut them down & indicated that wasn't where he was at. Now, however, he seems to be shilling a lot more for the Pat Robertson wing of the Christian Taliban.
If nothing else, this seems to be a clear example of him--or somebody who instructs him--making a deliberate and maybe gradual shift in the doctrine, presumably because it works better in the Puggy propaganda mix.

2. Never had it, conveniently ignored by the fundies... |
|
There is plenty written on the disconnect between the fundies and the power elite of the repugs. Kuo's book, "What's the Matter with Kansas", to just name two do a good job of demonstrating the pimping done by these. The fundies have sold their souls for power. this is a faustian story of the first rank. And apparantly, the fundies don't care, hence, IMHO, the collective yawn from them over Kuo's revelations.

Kuo's book is "Tempting Faith".
Thomas Frank wrote "What's The Matter With Kansas".

8. Okay...I can see that. |
|
The comma in there could indicate that.
(Not to be a pedantic ass or a grammar flamer here....)
Frank's book is a modern classic and Kuo's looks good too.
My bad.

4. I've never heard him talk about his own religion - ever. |
|
And you can't call him shy about voicing opinions. Never once a mention of going to a church, rarely invokes God outside of his trademark "Talent on loan from God" :puke:
He must not owe God that much.

6. Well, now that you mention it, |
|
The powers he has, such as the power to mislead the gullible, the power to elevate greed in status to a virtue in the minds of his followers, the power to make torture seem a laudable activity, etc. --somehow, those powers just don't seem likely to derive from God. Maybe he contracted for them somewhere else, if you get my drift.

10. Same here. The ONLY God he ever referred to was HIMSELF. |
|
...to be fair, "talent on loan from God..." but that certainly doesn't divorce him from divinity...

12. But the stem cell thing mostly has its origins in Fundie...uh... |
|
misconceptions about procreation. I don't know anybody but fundies who are whacked out of shape by stem cell research, so to hear of Rush going on the attack here led me to conclude that he is at least pandering to the fundie freakos.

14. You know he doesn't give a damn about stem cell issues, don't you? |
|
But it's important to his boy Shrub and that's all he needs to know.
