Saw a map of Bush's "fence." It looks like flippers on a pinball machine.
Two long sections of fence, half on the left, half on the right, with a big gaping "drain" in the middle. Anyone who has played a pinball machine knows that the flippers work great...if the ball hits them. But that big giant gap in the middle is where you lose your credits, when the ball is on a trajectory that is going to take it down that drain no matter how wildly you hammer the flippers. Bush's new "flippers" will only cause the balls to bounce back into the playing field for a bit, but as with that pinball game, it is only a matter of time before it finds its way down the drain.

A seven hundred mile fence with a 1,200 mile hole right smack in the middle of it is like one of the worst 25¢ pinball games in the arcade; the house will make a fortune off it because the balls slide through the drain so easily.

1. Uh, how do they manage to fit a 1200 mile hole in a 700 mile fence?
??

2. The border is 1,951 miles long. You do the math

Haven't you ever seen a pinball machine? This is one one long 700 mile fence, according to the map in today's Hartford Courant...half of it stretches from Baja, to other half from the tip of Texas.

5. So really, it's like ONE flipper on a pinball machine - even worse!
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 09:59 AM by file83
Can you imagine playing pinball with one flipper? That game wouldn't last long. This 700 mile fence will be just about as effective.

What a waste of money and time. Typical Bush: pander to his constituents before an election, but not really.

7. No, it isn't ONE 700 mile long fence...it is two roughly 350 mile fences.

Haven't you ever seen a pinball machine? I can't explain it much better...half the fence stretches from the southern tip of Texas, the other half stretches from Baja. BETWEEN these two 350 miles sections of fence is a 1200 mile hole.

9. Oh, I got the idea it was ONE fence from you...
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 10:39 AM by file83
...you said "This is one one long 700 mile fence".

So is it ONE or TWO fences?

4. That's a PERFECT analogy: Bush's "Secure Pinball Flippers" bill.
It fits. Well.

6. You gotta learn to shake the machine and "guide" the ball properly
;) Gently now, you don't want to tilt.

14. Excellent illustration, Atman! Of course those "pinballs" will be vulture chow
If the flipper fences don't get 'em, the sun will.

12. The purpose of the fence is not actually to keep illegals out
It's to pacify the racist base while making Halliburton a nice chunk of money. It's the way they do everything: make a pretense of action and shovel money hand-over-fist to GOP-friendly corporations.
