Snow:"You think Dick Cheney's going to slip up on something like this?"
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 10:42 AM by Solly Mack
Note the phrase "slip up"

White House denies Cheney OK'd torture

"Earlier, White House press secretary Tony Snow denied that Cheney had endorsed water boarding.

"You know as a matter of common sense that the vice president of the United States is not going to be talking about water boarding. Never would, never does, never will," Snow said. "You think Dick Cheney's going to slip up on something like this? No, come on."

Interesting word choice.

2. "Slip up" = Reveal
Meaning Cheney would never reveal the actual, functioning waterboarding program. Good catch!

3. LOL! TOO LATE Snowy! He's already revealed
your party's acceptance of it!

They're losing their touch in the lie/spin/lie department. Dick needs to check-in with Snowy more often. Their scripts conflict.

Cheney WANTS us to know we do this. He said this for a reason. IMCPO, he's telling us, "we don't give a shit what Congress says, we will do what we want." It's another dare. There's a reason he admitted this, don't you think?

6. Like another poster on another thread said: "They believe their own lies"
and they believe the lies that cover their lies and the lies that cover the lies that covered the other lies

and they insult every American by expecting the people to also believe those lies.

20. Not only did he already reveal it...
But you just confirmed it by saying that for Cheney to admit to it would be a slip-up!

11. Exactly. People don't use "slip up" because there is nothing to hide
well, they don't tend to use it that way anyway.

Whenever I have had a "slip up" - it meant I screwed up somehow

Funny how they didn't realize it right away - I wish it was enough to get Cheney convicted of war-crimes, but it looks like he is denying it all now :(

Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 11:15 AM by Solly Mack
and the language used by Snow confirms that

Cheney let the cat out of the bag, so to speak

and Snow is trying to stroke the kitty back in

I wish it were enough to too...but they'll always deny everything and attempt to create reasonable doubt(cough cough) in the minds of people..and for some people, they would rather believe the lies and call them "doubt" than to know the truth. The truth can be scary if you've built your identity around believing certain things about people ...and political parties...and government

They want to believe "it can't happen here"

18. From the article, quotes from interview
http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/news/columni...

In the interview on Tuesday, Scott Hennen of WDAY Radio in Fargo, N.D., told Cheney that listeners had asked him to "let the vice president know that if it takes dunking a terrorist in water, we're all for it, if it saves American lives."

"I do agree," Cheney replied, according to a transcript of the interview released Wednesday. "And I think the terrorist threat, for example, with respect to our ability to interrogate high-value detainees like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, that's been a very important tool that we've had to be able to secure the nation."

"Would you agree that a dunk in water is a no-brainer if it can save lives?" asked Hennen.

"It's a no-brainer for me, but for a while there, I was criticized as being the vice president `for torture.' We don't torture. That's not what we're involved in," Cheney replied. "We live up to our obligations in international treaties that we're party to and so forth. But the fact is, you can have a fairly robust interrogation program without torture, and we need to be able to do that."

30. add to that their arrogance - they are just so comfy in their position
of power, they don't think anyone can touch them.

Cheney felt so safe to be in a friendly audience, he let it all out

I wonder now just how much he confesses when no one is taping his interviews.

31. His "slip up" is huge - and one that should be shouted around the world
Cheney is now refusing to say what he "really" meant, though Snow insist he "really" meant something else

I'm betting Cheney is getting lessons from a linguist on the importance of how language can give you away.

35. I thought it was rather sloppy all things considered
I think Cheney felt safe and beyond touch when he gave the interview. Maybe even felt it wouldn't get widespread play...OOPS! He probably talks about torture openly around his cronies all the time, so much so that he just didn't check himself this time.

And Snow fumbling like he did? WOW
