IE7 has another flaw
Thursday October 26th, 2006

http://blogs.download.com/Spyware-Hunt/post.php?p=1226

One week after the release of IE 7, and one week after security experts debated the first flaw within the new browser, security researchers at Secunia have announced another (albeit minor) flaw in the browser. The vulnerability affects pop-up toolbars and could potentially be used by phishers attempting to lure unsuspecting victims to their fraudulent sites. A workaround exists: Simply configure IE 7 to open new windows in a new tab; this is not the default setting. To do this, click Tools, then Internet Options, then Tabs Setting, then answer the question “When a pop-up is encountered” with “Always open pop-ups in a new tab.” Microsoft has blogged a response. For more on this vulnerability, read this News.com article.

3. Yeah that browser.
Keep using IE7 if you really like it.

I'll stick with the browser that has been running on my machine for 2 years without ever having spyware installed on my machine.

I'll also stick with the browser that lets me pick and choose the features I want, with extensions.

11. The irony here is that IE users are still using Mosaic as well...
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 12:19 PM by originalpckelly

Have you ever read the older IE about dialog?

IE used licensed code from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications or NCSA, and this code was actually from Mosaic.

They might have replaced it, but this is Microsoft after all, who knows?

Firefox uses the Gecko engine which unlike the Mariner rendering engine, is totally unrelated to Mosaic. (Mariner was the rendering software used in the early versions of Netscape Navigator, and was coded by the same people who made Mosaic, so it was based off of Mosaic.)

9. It takes a day or so for the Mozilla developers to put out patches...
and they have designed Firefox so well that it is susceptible to fewer hacks. Everyone has the code so anyone who knows what the problem is and has the experience to program it and fix it will.

That is the beauty of Firefox.

Right now IE users are completely at the mercy of Microsoft to develop patches for IE. Microsoft is so big a bloated that they usually take days if not weeks to prepare patches.

So in other words Firefox is generally better at security.

just people who like to use a browser which doesn't fill their computers with spyware and other crap. Of course when a browser is itself crap, there isn't much of a way to get around that is there?

19. All Browsers Have Their Little Bugs And Flaws. Firefox 2 Has Them Too.
All in all, these are all minor. All of the new browsers are good for the most part.

20. True, but you have to admit Firefox is a lot less annoying.
The new dialogs in IE are very pesky, and do not offer any real understanding of what is going on. People automatically click them after a while without paying attention to what they say.
