That's all any Democratic candidate has to say. That's the end of the discussion. It makes anything any Republican says afterwords sound foolish and/or bigoted. It shows how idiotic it is to claim that gay marriage threatens other marriages. Just stand up for something and make a point. It impresses voters more than weaseling around and trying not to admit that you really don't have a problem with gay marriage because you aren't a bigot. Just say it.

1. Oh my marriage is hopelessly wrecked
and I am convinced it is because them gays in Massachusetts and them gays in Vermont and them gays in Canada are surrounding me here in hold out New Hampshire with their civil unions and legal marriages and SECRET GAY AGENDA. If Maine goes gay we are doomed. Plus civilization collapsed in case you hadn't noticed. Also the stock market is up and gas prices are down. Wait, they can't be responsible for that too, can they?

2. I agree
My Dad was a very Archie-Bunkeresque type.
Very very much so.
We had a lesbian couple move in next door. They were both Nurses and taught at a major University.
My Dad used to say all kinds of negative epithets about these ladies.
Until he got to know them.
They loved animals and my Dad was very smart about taking care of animals and rescuing ones from death (I remember waking up to the sound of baby pigs in the oven--they were born in the rain and almost drowned--they were covered in Vicks vaporub. They all lived.)
Anyway, they had a sick animal and they brought it to him. They all hit it off and were great friends until he died.
All it took was for him to get past the first prejudice and find common ground.
Of interesting note, my Dad died at age 45 of lung cancer. These ladies helped to take very good care of him because he refused to go to the hospitals for treatments.
I think if we can get past people's sexual orientations, we would realize they aren't any different than we perceive ourselves (as hetero's) to be.

4. This reaffirms my belief
that most prejudice is really just rooted in ignorance. Add in a little "that's how I was raised" and before you know it you have a full blown bigot where there might be a kind, understanding human being.

14. Thank you for sharing that

It was a touching story, and so clearly illustrates how bigotry is rooted in ignorance.

Thank You

3. Gosh I guess if christians get divorced it wouldn't be their fault
Surely christians don't get divorced now, do they?

http://www.skeptictank.org/gen2/gen00101.htm

We've been married 30+ years and are so fearful of same sex marriage. It will destroy everything we have. Yo christians, doesn't that sound so fucking stupid? You constitution hating morons deserve the theocracy that is Iran.

5. My marriage survived just fine with a gay couple next door and a
single gay man on the other side. Actually, my husband lived there for 8 years before we got together and nobody "turned him gay".

7. There are already married gay couples in the world today.
Does anyone feel their marriage means less because of it? It's such a stupid fucking argument for wanting to marginalize homosexuals.

8. My two best friends are gay
They happen to be a couple for more then 10 years. I see them all the time, my wife is friends to them, I take my kids to their house to play, and yet they have not seemed to be able to break up my family yet. They've tried ya know. They are always trying to convert me to their perverse way of life because that is what homos do ya know.

:sarcasm:

9. Isn't simply knowing they're a couple enough to make your marriage meaningless?
That's the argument behind all this anti-gay-marriage crap, isn't it? That, somehow, gays committing to a loving relationship makes marriage itself meaningless?

It's painful how stupid so many appear to be, isn't it?

11. Funny
I was talking about this with my gay friends the other night. I said something to the effect of "Gee in all the years I've known you guys I've never gone home wondering about my sexuality. Even when I was single it was quite clear that I was attracted to women. As much time as I spent with these guys and yes even going to gay bars (by far the best drinks around) I never really had any urges to be with a man.

And yes, it is ignorant to think for a moment that having gay neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. in any way can challenge a happily married couple.

All these ridiculous arguments are just an easy way out for homophobes to not have to simply say "We hate fags." It is just fancy talk for "We hate fags."

every night (through the government) 'coz they don't have enough fun on their own.

I couldn't agree more. Say it, then refuse to discuss it further.

It works for the RRR.
