KERRY: "Is WH That Was For Torture Before It Was Against It-For It Again?"
John Kerry responded to Cheney’s admission of moral depravity with the following statement:

“Is the White House that was for torture before it was against it, now for torture again?

First Senator McCain says that “waterboarding and other extreme measures” are off limits. Senator Graham said we “let the world know we are no longer engaging in” waterboarding. I guess no one let the Vice President know. He said waterboarding—or simulated drowning— is “a no-brainer.”

Who can we believe? The Vice President? The White House spin team? Or Senate Republicans who have no say in how this policy is enforced? It is clearer by the day that an Administration that lobbied for the right to torture got exactly what it wanted. If that’s not the case, Senate Republicans who defended the Administration’s intentions and defended the Administration compromise need to demand answers and accountability from their White House.

6. ok, maybe I am a bit biased here BUT...
I think the point here is tad off... I thought the original cry to shame was how the Military Commission (MC) Act combined with the Patriot Act wiped out some of our rights as American Citizens. That is what needs to addressed. As for torture... I look at it by analogy of emotional response... if a child molester had abducted my child and hid him, and if I happened to find the perv you can DAMN GUARANTEE IT that I will "simulate drowning" his ass until he tells me where my kid is. I can look the other way during a time of war when torturing our non-citizen enemy combatants is a "means to an end" to save thousands of lives, I am all for it... BUT, torturing labeling American Citizens thus and removing our rights without defense is a serious breach of contract.

Another analogy for you to ponder...

Let's pretend the Dems win 2006/2008 and we have a new President we all love. But one day, she disappears and shows up blindfolded in an Al Queda video, being beatened and raped. The good news is that we have a prisoner who was captured during her abduction who knows where she is being held... and yet, because there was so much hoopla and whining about "torture" during the previous elections, the new President revoked the MC and Patriots Acts and closed down Guantanamo Bay. The prisoner now refuses to reveal the information knowing we can't touch him, and he's right, we can't force it. The new Vice President decides that he will let the people choose the next action sets up a impromptu Issue Vote that every citizen, registered (or not), can vote on...

( ) Let the President Die
( ) "Simulate Drowning" the Prisoner and Save the President

Which would you choose?

I mean to provoke careful thinking here, because what has really become apparent these days of late and reading these boards is that the United States of America is not so United anymore... and for good reason, but to nit pick on every single little thing creates a dark dense fog of uncertainty and loss of hope on what can be accomplished, and accomplished in order of priority, when our leadership does changes hands. Two weeks ago, I would come to DU and see intelligent conversations about important issues... and today I come in and there is so much, I leave with a headache and a little disgusted with all the dribble about EVERYTHING we should not be focused on very little on what we should be focused on when Dems take it in 06/08... fixing the hacks to our Constitution and Bill of Rights and prioritizing the issues to be addressed and prioritizing them with ONE GOAL... to have a UNITED States of America we can ALL be proud of.

My two cents and a quarter :)
