Prediction: if Ds take House but not Senate:
The corporate media and especially Rush O'Hannity types will proclaim it as an R victory. Consequently, the "fact" will be that Bush won, despite actual R losses. They will phrase it as a great electoral feat considering the odds, Iraq and the national mood. This will occur even if the Ds make gains in the Senate. Of course the numerical odds in the Senate are on their side still because of the number of safe Rs vs. safe Ds up for reelection. They will say screechy, extreme Ds who they say includes Pelosi, Dean and Feingold drove swing voters away.

8. Nothing, since the answers may be self-incriminatory.
They'll take the 5th, you see. :-)

2. Of course they'll spin it. Who cares? Let them go lick their wounds.
As long as we at least get the House back, let them say what they want.

13. With periodic bouts of Republican scandal.
The "problem"{*} is that the Republicans have been assuming they would be in control for the indefinite future, and so they will find out, to their chagrin, where the cracks are only after the subpoenas are issued.

{* Note: As faced by Republicans ... not a problem for the rest of the country!}

legislative agenda is DONE. If we gain the House and get 49 seats in the Senate, I consider that to be a Dem victory. 51-49 is a very scant split and will be a difficult job for any Senate majority leader, Dem or Rethug. They'll hafta negotiate with Speaker Pelosi and have to achieve consensus. If Dems take the House, the Senate will simply be icing on the cake.

9. Probably me
If bushit and the pukes get to keep packing the courts, it may not matter whether we have the House - or even if we win the Presidency in two years.

I want the House, and would be happy to get it. But I think the Senate is more important.

10. Well, it starts with Fox and Limbaugh...
...and those with WH marching orders. Then the rest of the corporate "news" media starts parroting it. Then people just accept it as fact, just like the "fact" that Michael Moore is crazy or that Ds are weak on defense. In the end, the Rs are left with their perception of invincibility and the average person sticks with the R brand loyalty. That may be overstating the matter given present poll numbers, but such figures are pretty transitory, after all.

16. the original poster

I was trying to be polite by not being specific, but if you insist.
I just get very weary of people always looking at the dark side of things or more accurately at possible hypotheticals that are simultaneously paradoxically pretty much givens.
It's like they go out of their way to find something wrong with the world.
Of course media shills for Republicans are going to try to spin whatever happens.
Even if we take both the House and Senate, they'll try to find some way to spin it.
There's plenty wrong with the world to focus on as it is without wringing our hands about such types.

Plus I'm not entirely sure if "they" will claim it as a victory for the Republicans.
Either way I'll find out then and worry about it then. I don't buy the argument that it's particularly useful to discuss it now in order to be prepared, I can be plenty prepared without discussing hypothetical scenarios about possible spin points. The real test of victory or defeat will not be what media shills say but how the newly elected Democrats behave once in a position of power.

See, I'm one of those glass half full types on this subject.

18. Well, I AM suggesting that victory is possible.
Seems like whenever I suggest we might win, some says, "Well Diebold will take care of that." 30 years of R dirty tricks have made it hard to be optimistic about fairness in media or popular culture.

23. Excellent
Glad that you are not one of those Diebold obsessed individuals. (not that it's a bad idea to be concerned about Diebold in general terms)
They would be a good example of what I was thinking of.
I think I misread you a bit and unconciously reacted to having read so many posts here that do exactly that ( that is, say that "Diebold will take care of that) even though you weren't saying that.

14. I'm willing to wager that you're wrong.
The MSM will actually make a big deal out of the pukes loosing the house. Particularly as Nancy Pelosi will likely be speaker. They'll play it as a big win for dems, and as long as the dems pick up 3 or more seats, that'll get played as a dem win as well.

Maybe we've always misinterpreted him when he said that in 2000 & 2004...maybe he was referring to Jeff Gannon.}(

21. Of course they will.
Anything other than massive gains for Dems in both houses will mean that the retards on the right will be able to spin it as a Republican victory.

The question is how we will handle it. Will we decide that because we didn't get a complete blowout that we should give up? Or should we use what little leverage we have to stop the Boy King and his miscreants?
