SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger raised $7 million for his re-election campaign during the first three weeks of October, half by dipping into his personal fortune, according to campaign reports filed Thursday.
Schwarzenegger's Democratic opponent, state Treasurer Phil Angelides, took in $2.3 million during the same period, Oct. 1 through Oct. 21.
Schwarzenegger gave $3.5 million to his re-election committee on Oct. 18. He now has contributed $21.7 million to his political causes since he ran for governor in the 2003 recall election.
"The governor has a long history of personally contributing to his political efforts, and this year is no exception," campaign spokeswoman Julie Soderlund said.
