Rove: U.S. can't leave one of the world's largest oil reserves in terrorist hands

Rove: Military Must Be Flexible in Iraq

By TODD RICHMOND
The Associated Press
Saturday, October 28, 2006; 12:29 AM

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Presidential advisor Karl Rove blasted Democrats on Friday for even suggesting the U.S. withdraw from Iraq, saying the U.S. can't leave one of the world's largest oil reserves in terrorist hands.

However, Rove also said the military must be flexible in its tactics. He did not elaborate.

Snip...

Joe Wineke, chairman of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, said the public realizes Bush and Rove took America to war under false pretenses.

"Frankly, I think Karl Rove has had too much of his own Kool-Aid. He's starting to believe his own message," Wineke said. "It's their war. It's their mess."

War, oil, kind of hard to tell the difference these days.

"You left wing nuts are insane for suggesting this war is about oil."

11. Could Cheney, Rove and Bush convince themselves that Iran is a terrorist state?
One small step away from their premise of not letting terrorists control such large supplies of oil.

I can hear it now:
"Our bigger God could have put all of our oil under Texas but he chose to put some under the Middle East, so that we could bring freedom to those poor people."

:sarcasm:

17. They can't have the Iraqi "Terrorists" pumping Iraq oil to its full
potential and bringing the price of oil down to what it is worth - the price of dirt. No one has ever come close to pumping Iraq oil fields to their full potential. If they did, oil would be dirt cheap. They can't leave until they have locked down Iraq oil fields and turned them over to the International Oil Corporations to ensure they are never ever pumped fully.

19. OIL.
I wondered when they'd have to resort to "floating" the truth.

OIL is what bush refers to when he says "national security interests". Most the world knew that. Even half of America knew that. BEFORE hundreds of thousands of men, women, babies were casualties of bush's illegal "supreme crime" invasion of a nation that hadn't been doing one damn thing to anyone.

And of course the MFing stupid rightwingnuts will defend America's right under that MFer bush to attack other nations for their resources.

Oil companies are profiteering from this war by manipulation of the oil supply.

Record profits once again.

29. Yep. But I don't think it's going to play all that well
to the folks who think we're fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here. It's hard to sell the notion that American patriots should support the war because it's, uh, really about the oil.

28. O'Reilly said exactly the same thing on Letterman last night.
And Dave said, "So, you just admitted it--the whole thing's about oil." It was quite a moment. I think the Repiglicans had better think twice before adopting strategic control of Iraq's oil as a pro-war talking point; war for oil won't sit well with many Americans. On the other hand, I feel vindicated--I've been saying it was about oil since it became apparent (to me) that they lied about WMD.

32. This may be the October surprise: The WH is dropping their
strategy of conjuring mass hallucinations about WMDs and "democracy" in Iraq, and fostering a partial return to reality.

But this shift in strategy is dangerous. Millions may ask, WHEN did Iraq get to be all about blood for oil? During the secret meetings with Big Oil Cheny held in 2001, for his "WH Energy Task Force"? After oil, Task Force members did receive discussion documents that included Iraq oil maps -- see http://www.judicialwatch.org/printer_iraqi-oilfield-pr.shtml .
