NY City, Why didn't you find remains 5 years ago??? |
|
I guess Rudy was too busy doing talk shows and building up a security business. I find this incredible. That five years after the towers came down workers have found over 200 bones & fragments since a week-long search. ~snip~ Workers have found more than 200 pieces of remains inside manholes along the road since utility workers discovered bones inside a manhole last week.~snip~ http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Attacks-Remains.html

1. Or for that matter neither did Mayor Bloomburg do squat about searching |
|
...for human remains from 9/11

2. I find this outrage just a tad bit over done. |
|
Heck, we are still finding Civil War era remains on some battle field sites.
With the amount of debris and the number of people involved over a huge area on 9/11, I'm not surprised at all remains are still being found. Not surprised at all.
I'm a lot more outraged the freaking building are STILL not being rebuilt after five years.

3. I'd agree if the Civil War was fought in ONE city block. |

4. Civil war battlefields typically are not very big. |
|
Their range of firearms made close quarter fighting the rule rather than the exception.
So I'm not sure what your point is.

5. Yeah, and it's more than a little outrageous to think |
|
that the remains of someone who died so horribly have been, or still are, essentially lying in a sewer for years.
Also, the soldiers who fought the Civil War went in knowing they might die on the battlefield and that it might be hard to recover their bodies or any parts thereof. They went forth in the full knowledge that being killed was always a possibility. Their loved ones knew it, too.
The people whose body parts currently lie in sewers in New York did not have any idea they might end up that way. They were either just showing up for another day at work, or taking a trip. The only ones who probably had death cross their minds at all that morning were the ones on the planes--just because people are aware of the inherent risk in air travel. Most people don't go into a skyscraper to work (or at least before 9/11, they didn't) thinking about the likelihood of their death if a catastrophic fire breaks out in the building.
In any case, it's doubtful any of them expected their body parts might end up lying under the streets of Manhattan undiscovered for years.
Their loved ones did not think they would die that day either, or that they would have to spend years waiting and hoping for something of them that could be retrieved and buried.

7. Hey, I'd be the first one to say everything possible should be done |
|
to find every remains on the site. But, this is not a perfect world.
Nobody wants to see their loved ones remains lying in a sewer for five years, but it's not like the city just blew them off and said tough shit, we know they are there, but they aren't that important.
My point about the Civil War was not about why or how they died for some reason you thought it was important to make that distinction, the point was even to this day, 140 years after the fact, remains are still being found, I'm not surprised five years after 9/11 we still find remains

10. I agree, poppyseedman. |

I understand the sadness and anger those who lost loved ones feel, but at the same time, it's a human tragedy. Sometimes things get lost in the shuffle.
