URGENT! Chafee and Landrieu and Clinton - CALL NOW!
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 04:35 PM by IndyOp
I. Lincoln Chafee is pro-choice, and there are signs that he will go for broke to halt Alito.

CALL HIS OFFICE NOW, AND GIVE HIM STRENGTH!!

Washington: 202-2224-2921

Providence RI - 401-453-5294
Newport, RI - 401-845-0700

II. Mary Landrieu is now speaking out AGAINST a filibuster!

LET'S HELP SET HER STRAIGHT!!

CALL SENATOR LANDRIEU - ONE OF THE CRUCIAL 8!
Here's one of the CRUCIAL EIGHT! I'm asking Texans, especially, but really anyone, to FOCUS ON MARY LANDRIEU to defeat Alito.
Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) is speaking publicly against a filibuster of the Alito nomination for Supreme Court.
She says there is more important business the Senate needs to get on with. !!!!! Ted Kennedy said yesterday during Alito Senate debate: "The stakes could not be higher. This is the vote of a generation."

PLEASE CALL OR FAX HER OFFICES.
PLEASE -- EVERYONE CONTACT HER.
IF YOU KNOW LOUISIANA RESIDENTS, INCLUDING EVACUEES LIVING ELSEWHERE -- SPREAD THIS TO THEM TOO. HELP THE NATION!!!

Senator Mary Landrieu (D)
Phone: (202) 224-5824
Fax: (202) 224-9735
You can just say YOU MUST FILIBUSTER.

III. New York's Senator Clinton has not released a statement on the filibuster yet.
Although she plans to vote against Alito, she does not yet support a filibuster.

Please help her make the right decision, and as soon as possible.

Email her, or call one of her offices, RIGHT NOW. (Contact info below.)

If Kerry can support the use of this bold tactic, why can't she?

2. I called Landrieu as a member of the DU Hurricane Survivors Forum!
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 04:28 PM by sfexpat2000
And I told them our project was to tend to the Gulf Coast, and that we all know Scalito will not help us.

(Her staffer made agreeing sounds while I was talking but maybe he was just raised to be nice to women, lol.)

I told them all of us would like her to reconsider her stand on the filibuster.

Keep calling, DU.

On edit: I called the NOLA office as the DC office didn't answer.

6. Ms. Landrieu needs to get tuned
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 04:29 PM by dusmcj
She's one of the little 'stars' of the Democratic Party, and while it's clearly important to cultivate a new generation of leadership, it seems to be going to her head. She mouthed off recently about something which she was clearly unqualified to babble about (can't rmeember what it was) and here she goes again. No, Katrina relief is not as important as the constitution of the Supreme Court for the next 30 years. (Maybe she was pandering to her Catholic electorate ?)

I'm one of the last people to support clubhouse rules, but in her case I suggest that she's talking out of turn, and needs to be told to shut up. Little princes and princesses are a conservative thing, she's in the wrong party for that kind of shit.

18. Some zip codes for Louisiana
I've noticed that when congress members want money, they are not hesitant to send me mail, outside their district. But, when it comes to legislation and, in this case, one of the important votes of this generation, some are loathe to accept feedback from someone outside their state.

If you are from Louisiana, maybe you, um, forgot your zip code.

They are asking if you are from Louisiana.

You might be from Baton Rouge, LA: 70805, 06, 07 08, 09, 70810

Alexandria 71302 71303

Shreveport (71103 through 71109)

Lafayette (70506, 07, 08).

Need a zip code: http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown.jsp

Landrieu and her state's people DO urgently need hurricane relief. I know that.

I would be happy to call my Senators and demand that for Louisiana. AFTER WE FILIBUSTER ALITO.

51. At some point today Collins said she was voting for Alito
I never saw her on C-SPAN and it wasn't mentioned in the threads, but C-SPAN's tally now shows her as Yes vote.

Snowe was supposed to speak tonight, but when Kerry announced his filibuster she removed herself from the schedule. It may be a coincidence, it may not. I called Snowe's office and they gave me no indication either way...

If you can persuade any other NYCers to call her office (can probably get thru to her NY office better than DC right now), I think she can definitely be won over. Especially now, since Kerry has gotten out in front of this thing!

38. Indy, my friend, I will make some calls...trot out my NO and NY accents
"III. New York's Senator Clinton has not released a statement on the filibuster yet.
Although she plans to vote against Alito, she does not yet support a filibuster."

I'm making this part of my permanent record.

We have two filters for 2008:

1) continued support of Iraq and
2) failure to filibuster Alito.

Fail one or both and your out. It's our job to select the candidate, think about that process and implement it. Nothing personal, just the facts ma'am!

and genuinely pleased so many people from 'all over the country have not forgotten us down here' when I quickly inquired about how it is going for them in general. So sounds like they are getting calls from a lot of places. I asked her to remind the Senator that b*sh certainly has forgotten about them.

On to Chafee and Clinton...

no matter what it feels good to be involved in this, it is now or never I feel.
