Why do people on DU cry so much?
On a daily basis you read people who post how things they read, heard, saw, smelled, etc. caused them to come to DU and post a serious topic starting the post with "Why am I crying".

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but if it's not pure vocal rage, the other emotion people are very quick to display in GD is abject sorrow.

Right now, the Dems are getting raked over the coals for being too mushy, too soft, etc, and to come here to one of the most vocal discussion Liberal discussion sites on the internet and read how somebody is in tears after watching a 15 minute segment put on by CBS...well, that's kind of living up to the popular opinion, isn't it?

Turn those fucking tears into action, God dammit.

/end rant

12. You can still be doing something
and cry about how messed up this last 6 years have been. And the media is trying to portray the Dems in Congress as soft. That really doesn't have much to do with the average American Democrat.

Why do I cry? Because it's messed up. Because so many people are dying. Because I'm afraid that, despite our best efforts, things will go supremely wrong on November 7th (for whatever reason). Because I'm sad about the damage that is being done to humans, animals, the environment. Because I'm fucking angry (yep, I can cry from anger, too). How can you see the people dying in Iraq and not cry? How can you see the elderly, the sick, the children in our county suffer without crying? How can you not feel sorrow for the irreversible damage done to our planet, our reputation, our families, our lives?

The question you SHOULD be asking is not why we cry so much, but why aren't YOU?

15. If you don't cry you become republican
at least once in a while you gotta emote a few tears
otherwise we'd be all cranky and uptight like the freeps.
Maybe if the freeps had a good weep, they'd get a little compassion.
Then again, it could just make for soggy freeps

40. Crying is not a sign of weakness. It is instead an emotion of
despair and anger. One can cry & then get mad & then reach a critical mass of power. How's about it?

30. I have yet to cry here, but then I'm a newbie
But I sometimes cry when angry or frustrated, but only in real life. Then there are times I know if I don't laugh, I'll either cry or go insane.

Then there are times I need to scream, but I don't believe I've seen a smilie for that.

Are those meant to be taken literally, or is it just an evocative way to say "I'm disturbed by something"? If literal, it seems like an odd reaction (IMO) - when I'm moved to tears by something, running to post about it online is pretty low on my to-do list..

(And by the way, I cry very little - we're all man over here!)

36. "why am I crying" is often a rhetorical question.
Yes, it is often sorrow, sometimes rage. And most often it is rhetorical. Rather than stating "I am crying and this bothers me (or not)" one posts "why am I crying?" Sometimes it means that I should be used enough to the bs that goes on that I am suprised that I can still cry. It does NOT mean I am not acting, but I am emoting. If someone thinks I am too mushy because I post this here, on DU, well, tough shit for them. (that last is not rage, not sorrow, shrugging)

Otherwise, I must be an awfully cold person in comparison, because I could never get that emotional over any of these topics.

44. Crying
I don't think that it's really crying, half the time. It's just a good way to display the depth of your emotion on a topic, and inspire a response. Melodrama works! I sincerely hope people aren't crying about politics on a regular basis, if so, it's probably time to take a break.

45. It's part of having feelings
We men are trained from an early age to not show emotions, so for the most part we don't. But that doesn't mean we don't have emotions, they are there, but you have to see the levee we have built to hold back that river of tears.

And of course "If It keeps on Raining, the Levees going to break".

For DUers and others that feel, it's part of being human to have those feelings.

I've noted what you describe, but it doesn't bother me. Get to know some of the people and you will see the same people hitting it hard on another topic. We all are sensitive to certain topics - compassion is a quality that seems to be missing from the RW ass holes. This is not a weakness, it's a strength. Complicated emotions are good - RWers are zombies - we do not want to emulate that...

51. Crying over you

I was all right for a while
I could smile for a while
But I saw you last night
You held my hand so tight
As you stopped to say, "Hello"
Oh, you wished me well
You couldn't tell
That I'd been crying over you
Crying over you
When you said, "So long"
Left me standing all alone
Alone and crying, crying
Crying, crying

I was all right for awhile
I could smile for awhile
But I saw you last night
You held my hand so tight
As you stopped to say, “Hello”.

Oh, you wished me well
You couldn’t tell that I’d been
Crying over you, crying over you
When you said “So long”
Left me standing all alone
Alone and crying, crying, crying, crying.
It’s hard to understand
But the touch of your hand
Can start me crying

I thought that I was over you
but it’s ture, so true,
I love you even more than I did before
but darlin, what can I do?
For you don’t love me and I’ll always be
crying over you, crying over you
Yes, now you’re gone
and from this moment on
I’ll be crying, crying ,crying, crying
Yeah, crying, crying, over you.
