A ‘very busy month’
"October has been very busy from a standpoint of operations on the ground and certainly back here in Washington," White House counselor Dan Bartlett said.

1. Dont look for any pResidential news conferences this week.
Bush would surely be confronted with this. And 'Prevaricator Tony' does not wish to repeat his cold "it's just a number" utterance.

3. I'm sure he'd rather be ANYwhere besides Washington right now.
All that war planning and nodding at other people's plans and snarling at grim news from terrorists taht he has to do. It's hard work, I tells ya. It'd probably be easier if he could just strap on his bandaleros, hop in his fighter jet, and get into the thick of things like he did as a war hero in 'Nam.

4. I wonder how he works this out in his mind?
He seems to see only what he wants and how can he keep this out and give him self a reason for it. It will get better? We have gone that way before. Fact is some times things do not get better.

Bad news can't get in; only his fart-jokes escape out.

6. Good News for the GOP
That's potentially 100 fewer democratic voters.

Stealing the election is now just that much easier.

7. I have known other people who do this.
They ignore facts, compartmentalize and rationalize. Most of the people I know who are like this could benefit from some counseling. And none of them are the President of the United States.

9. I have met many like this. Even in college.
It was sort of interesting to sit in class with them. Teacher was not saying how to think just read all sides and it just did not work with these people. They just know they are right and you can not even give them proof to even look at another side. It is almost like a flag comes up in their mind if they think you may even get near to some thing they do not believe in and down comes the curtain. I never could figure it out but it was like they were really un-sure of what they think and did not want to know any thing else. I wish I knew more about peoples minds at times like this. Guess I will have to go to library and take out Psy.101 as it was not something that I got into before. And the county seemed to have hit the jack-pot. We got the tree most powerful men in DC that seem to think like this. President, Vice and DOD.

12. Does the callous repetition of the number of dead honor them?
I have no love for this war, and I have a healthy dislike for those who brought it upon us. But I have no respect at all for those who insist on repeating these numbers as if those who died are simply tick marks on our side of the ledger.

Discussions such as these are just as insensitive as Tony Snow's claim that "it's just a number."

17. No, not "what the fuck ever."
Read jmowreader's response to me. THAT's a meaningful response to this horror.

You're not the only one to find it meaningful to post these morbid death counts. But, IMHO, they are empty and cold. We have plenty of political clubs for bludgeoning Bush. Let's use those instead.

14. Call it shock and shock
First, shock that Iraq has become the sort of killing field that would absorb 100 troops in one month.

These troops have mothers and fathers.
Wives, or husbands, and children in some cases.
They've got bills to pay, art to make, sunsets to watch. Lives to live.
They've got friends. They've got co-workers who needed them alive, and will miss them personally.
And none of it's going to happen now. They were buried on brisk October days, to the snap of an overworked honor guard and the peal of a tape-recorded bugle.

The worse shock, though, comes from a press conference our Dear Leader held just last week. Or was it the week before? It's hard to tell, but we were already at the point where the current-month death toll in Iraq was higher than it's ever been. It was in October, certainly, and in this event he stood up and, with a perfectly straight face and a gleam in his eye, told the world "We are winning in Iraq."

We are winning? Was he at the Casket Makers International Convention? Certainly the Death Industry is profiting from Dear Leader's Oedipus complex. A hundred funerals took place this month that, without the Iraqi War, wouldn't have been conducted. That means a hundred funeral homes received a few thousand dollars each. A hundred floral arrangements. A hundred sets of funeral programs. A hundred death announcements in a hundred newspapers. Oh, if you're in the business of digging holes and filling them with dead American soldiers, you're supposed to be positively giddy about this war. (Well...none of the funeral directors I know get giddy about death...that's Shrub's job. Then again, our pResident is a psychopath...I typed that then sat back and looked at it; y'know, it's fucked up when you can actually sit here and think "the president of the United States is about one step from being a full-fledged ax-murderer.")

No, Mr. Bush, we are not winning in Iraq. What's losing look like to you? A company of KIAs a month? A brigade of casualties? You listed your parameters for what "winning" looks like--Iraqis defending their own country, schools opening, hospitals being built. Iraqis won't defend their own country. They know better. Every time someone graduates from the Iraqi Army school someone bombs his house, so no one's signing up anymore. The only "schools" that are opening in Iraq are madrassas, and not even you're stupid enough to claim a new institute for fomenting anti-American hatred as an "American success." As for hospitals...yeah, a few are opening, but they're so thoroughly infiltrated by terrorists--which, for your information, were not in Iraq before we invaded--that "getting a shot" in one of them has a whole new meaning. That's what we're up against.

We're staring down the barrel at three thousand American soldiers murdered by George Bush. That's why these threads appear.

16. Amen Brother And This Mother Of A Terribly Wounded US Marine
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 10:23 AM by Binka
Thanks you from the bottom of her heart. Now the Marines are putting pressure on Ben to go back with the 3/7 in 2007. He almost died in the killing fields of Ramadi and his best friend V was killed 2 weeks before he was to come home. Yet they want him to go back to that shithole.

Thank you for your kind words and compassion.

Here is Ben and his girl last month.
