NYT page 1: Mournful photos of a grim month at Arlington

(Doug Mills/The New York Times)

A Most Violent Month, and Many Final Farewells
Thomas J. Lueck

Burials at Arlington National Cemetery took on a grim regularity in October, when at least 103 American troops were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Iraq, the toll had reached 99 by Saturday, making October the deadliest month since January 2005.

Military officials attributed the high number of deaths to a spike in violence during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which began in late September and ended last week. They also pointed to a three-month campaign to win control of Baghdad from death squads that led to increased attacks on American troops.

But such explanations were little comfort to a 6-year-old girl weeping at the grave of her father, a mother clutching the flag from her son’s coffin, or a widow walking slowly through the rain behind her husband’s honor guard.

33. Check out this video, too................
that someone below posted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBpBPlvj6QA

If you've never been to a military funeral at Arlington.... they're something else.

That poor little girls face reminds me of my nephew's face when I had to tell him his mother had been killed in a car accident.

5. OMG....
...I just looked at this photo essay...and I have tears streaming down my face. My heart is breaking for those people and for the lives that were lost due to Bush's lies. I cannot hardly see to type this reply.

I want our troops home so badly, so very badly...I want this to end and not have people hurting like these families are hurting. The pain I feel is so deep on this ~~ I cannot begin to imagine what the friends and family are feeling. The pain must be overwhelming. That little girl, Sydney, did it to me. She is only six years old and she will remember for the rest of her life seeing her daddy go into the ground in a box.

My heart is just breaking....

I hope that bastard Bush and the rest of his pals who caused all this misery burn in hell for all eterntity...and that would be too good for them.

FUCK THIS WAR ~~ BRING OUR TROOP HOME NOW!!!!!!!!

3. I despise Bush
I want him brought to justice - the very thing he has denied others, I want him to have. Because there will be no closure, no healing, no moving on for America without it.

14. I know what you mean...
...that picture of that little girl from Vietnam lives on forever. Sydney broke my heart. She will suffer for the rest of her life the loss of her daddy. It is not only the US soldiers and the Iraqis who Bush has destroyed, but look at the lives just in those few pictures that his evilness has touched and destroyed.

FUCK YOU, GEORGE BUSH.

These are the kind of photos the Repubs don't want anyone to see while they claim it's going so swimmingly in Iraq.
Instead, they'd rather talk about tax-spending, gay-loving and baby-killing libruls taking over when it's currently going so well in America.

How can they sleep at night? They sleep quite well. Because they just don't care a damn.

You disgraceful excuse for a human being.

------------------------------------------------------------------

If this doesn't bring tears to a person's eyes, they aren't fit to call themselves human. This is powerful.

Another month over, another 100 families destroyed. What for again?
That's such a sad picture. I can't imagine what it's like when you lose your father or mother that early. That kind of puts an end to a part of your childhood. Instead, it should be a time when you don't have to worry about anything at all.

11. Please K&R this thread...
...and please send this photo essay to the Congressional bastards who still support this POS war. IMO, maybe they need to see the people who are left behind and who have had lives destroyed by the EVIL which BushCo is.

Thank you to anyone who sends this along and thank you for this thread ~~ it truly spells out, at least to me, some very good reasons why we MUST end this war NOW!

23. Because...
...IMO, he is fucking POS AWOL asshole...just like you said. Besides, he is too busy hanging "Mission Accomplished" banners and getting photo-ops like his faux landing on the aircraft carrier. Sheesh...he cannot be bothered to do anything about those who he sent to die for his fucking lies. He's the freaking WAR PREZ ~~ just like a John Wayne movie, right? At the end of the carnage, all the actors get up and go home, right? :sarcasm:

What did anyone expect??? That the bastard had a heart...or a brain. Too bad that more people did not have him figured for what he was BEFORE they voted for the POS or let him steal the 2000 election. If that asshole had never gotten to the WH, the Iraqi War would never have happened.

I will say it again because it feels so good and it is so right:

FUCK YOU, GEORGE BUSH! I HATE YOUR LYING, IMMORAL GUTS!!

21. Can anyone help me out?
I am looking ~~ without success ~~ for a list of US Reps who still support the POS war BS. I know the biggie names, but I am wondering if all these jerks are listed all in one place ~~ after that, an email addie is easy to find. I want to email to each of them the links to this photo essay and the video on this thread.

Is there such a list anywhere of the names of these elected reps? IMO, they need to have things like this in their email in-boxes. Maybe it will not do much with the likes of some of them, but hopefully anyone of them who is tottering on the brink of supporting a withdrawal of the troops will see these pictures and make the right decision when he/she votes on this issue.

TIA for any help on this. :hi:

You are so right. You can't always show the public the "good" sides of this war, all these photo-ops or propaganda. One has to show the other dark side that no one wants to see as well.
Then let them decide whether it was still worth it. Everybody who supported or still supports this war, should be forced to take a look at how this war affects people, they have to take a share of their pain. If they are still for it, fine, but everybody should know what it's like.

(Sorry to post it for those with slow internet connections. But you only have to look into their face to know they are going through hell. Words may not be able to express the pain they feel but their faces do and it's so heartbreaking.)

24. Shame, outrage and sadness for what we have stood too silently
and let Bush do to our troops and their families as well as the Iraqi people and their families who also loved their dead and maimed and cry real tears.

Step aside Pelosi! You are willing to move-on and let Bush and his cabal get away with this. I don't think so. We must have impeachment as soon as we have the votes to begin his trial for his lies about Saddam and his invasion of a country that had no defenses.

100 more families suffered the loss of their soldiers in just the month of October, 2006.
