Bush's twang talk....phoney or real?

Monkey Boy Bush is on CNN right now. He is speaking to some people in Georgia. Has anybody ever notice that whenever he makes speeches in the South or in some rural area, Bush's supposed "twang" is more prominent then when he is in D.C. or speaking in some urban area? I have often heard that he has been coached to use that so-called "Texas twang" whenever speaking to the country folk out on the road.

Geez, does the phoneyness of this man ever end?

and I'll tell everybody how when that family is disgraced and out of power. His normal accent is "educated southern," meaning just a hint of southern underneath a New England patrician accent.

Of course, that doesn't include the slurred words he has now, probably due to damage from years of heavy drinking.

As Texans should be. I have no doubt many clear-thinking Texans are rightly ashamed of having this ass-clown Bush dragging down the name of Texas. and I'm sure a video clip review would prove that theory correct.
He goes all statesman-patrician speaking when he's appearing with an international leader. Or when he's in the North.
But get the guy south of the Mason Dixon line and he's all cornpone Hollywood cowboy. Or Reagan cowboy. It's the Republican "I'm a man" act. (works particularly well for men who avoided fulfilling their Guard service, went to prep school, have never had a job Daddy didn't arrange, and like to dress up in flight suits).
Don't appear too smart, you'll scare the base - they don't like "smart people". Use folksy language. Guffaw whenever possible - even when it's not appropriate. Use simple language. Repeat yourself constantly. And say everything with steely conviction - even when it's outright lies.
There is a certain percentage (you know, those people who still have "W" sticker son their vehicles) who still swallow this act.

There's a scene from before Bush was governor, where he's talking about the access he has to the White House because of his father. No hint of the "accent," or whatever you call it.

Rove started grooming him for the national stage, they needed someone who seemed rugged and Texan and the opposite of Clinton and Gore and their suave, educated speech. They also needed something to keep people from labeling the effeminate W as "wimp," the way his father was labeled. So they started working on a John Wayne persona--speech, swagger, snarl, tough talk, etc. It's a bad imitation, but that's what it's supposed to be.

Ann Richards used to say that she was a native Texan, and Bush Daddy was a potted plant. Holds true of Little B, as well. Both phoney, both liars. Lousy family, top to bottom. The twins are fun, though, from what I hear.

I'm almost 42, and have lived in either NC or VA since I was 17... and I don't have a southern accent. I say y'all now, and certain words sound a teeny "southern," but that's it.

I'm from Texas and have a regular accent (none) but I can get a twang going if a want to especially talking around other people with a twang. But in the south its a drawl. So yeah he faking cause he's too stupid to know the difference.

It's fake, and none of my relatives sound like that (thank God). I have actually been complimented on NOT sounding like I was raised there, but I lived in San Antonio, which has a high number of people from all over living there, thanks to the military bases.

Having said that, however, people from East Texas sound differently than people from West Texas, who also sound differently from people in the Rio Grande Valley, who sound differently from people in the plains.

Texas is big enough that there are subdialects within the state, and it would take a good ear and/or someone who's lived there long enough to tell the difference.

I remember reading that in an earlier campaign for public office in Texas, W used to roam around the campaign office and spit tobacco juice in the wastebaskets.

I know this doesn't address the OP, but it seems he is hard-pressed to be perceived as "folksy." You know, someone the 'Merican people would want to have a beer with!

24. I was born in the north and moved to the south.

I was a college english major and have a law degree and speak very proper English when speaking publicly.

But I have to say that in just a few years in the south I developed a "twang" worse than Bush's.

I moved back north over 20 years ago, but the wierd thing is, I only have to talk to one of my old friends for 5 minutes for it all to come back. I scared my wife once, she thought I turned into something else.

So I see no reason to doubt its real, though he can turn it on and off, of course, as I can.
