GOP 'insider' on George Allen: "...he will be lucky to win re-election"

Allen's Campaign Is Nation's Worst, Insiders Say

(CNSNews.com) - Sen. George Allen of Virginia is running the worst campaign in the country, political insiders said in a poll released Saturday by the National Journal.

Fifty-three percent of Republican and 66 percent of Democratic "insiders" think George Allen's campaign is the sloppiest of the 2006 season, according to the survey of 138 political experts with campaign experience, insider knowledge and ties to key voting blocs.

Allen has suffered "numerous self-inflicted wounds," one Republican respondent said. "This onetime presidential wannabe has ushered himself off the national stage, and he will be lucky to win re-election."

8. He'll probably be added to the cable news talking head rotation.
Not that the one precludes the other any more, of course.

13. Robb was very damaged goods
He only got reelected in 1994 due to the GOP vote being split. In 2000 there was no vote split and Robb lost.

5. Odd to think that this guy was on a shortlist of 3 or 4 repukes for 08...
...but then, the vision of any repuke as president (of America, anyway) seems pretty ridiculous to me.

giving. I contacted Chuck Robb's campaign back in 2000 and told them my firsthand account of Allen's love of the Confederacy dating back decades, and gave them a detailed version of the racially motivated vandalism he was responsible for back in high school. I invited Robb's campaign manager to send a representative to our high school reunion to talk with classmates about their memories of Allen. One classmate who now lives in Virginia also attended college with Allen and had many stories to tell of Allen's racist behavior back then as well.

Robb's campaign declined and the question of Allen's character never came up.

In April of this year the New Republic finally published an exhaustive article detailing Allen's racism and abuse of his siblings. Even that didn't get picked up by the corporate whores until Allen opened his big mouth and uttered the word "macaca." That changed everything. The media finally started paying attention to what people who've known Allen have been saying all along - this guy is racist slime not fit to serve in the US Senate. It isn't a question of running a bad campaign. It's the little matter of Allen being a horrible human being.

9. Rats Are Leaping...
When a wingnut site like CNS puts up something like this, wer're starting to see some massive blame gaming about to happen in the GOOP ranks.

A good indicator this week of where things are going is if a challenger climbs to 50% or more in tracked polls or an incumbent is under 45% consider the race over. With DeWine and Rectorum around 40%, get ready to put a fork in them...and Corker and Allen are right on that 45% abyss.

10. ha!
i can believe this. there's another website that i frequent that had an individual who would jump in to defend macaca allen at every turn. he said that he was an "insider" who was in charge of one of his campaigns. however, as of late, i haven't seen hide nor hair of this person as the nasty stories have been turning up. the worm has turned for macaca!

12. The feel of this race from afar is that Webb's team is savvy and strong
and Cement-Head Allen's is thugggish and sluggish.

I know 2 Democrats volunteering in Virginia for Webb, and they're the best you can get for energy and dedication.

I think Allen loses this one, and properly so.
