Why isn't Nancy Pelosi in the Congressional Progressive Caucus?
Doesn't it make sense for San Francisco's congressperson to be in it? The way she has sidelined progressives worries me and I hope they fight her as much as they need to to get good positions in the 2nd races (after November, the race for committee seats).

1. She is, or used to be. That she opposes many progressive
causes worries me the most.

2. better question: is this the most important subject 8 days before the vote?
the U.S. is a big country, with a lot of people in it. we should not be shocked when compromise is required--we just need to push for as much positive change as possible, in the most effective ways possible.

in between big races, and during primaries & local elections: support the candidates who represent your ideals.

general election: straight Democratic ticket unless you have the luxury of no GOP opposition, in which case, vote Green or Libertarian or whatever you like.

4. she was until she was elected minority leader
at which point she foreswore membership in ANY caucus...

she is still one of the most progressive members of the House, you should be glad she's going to be majority leader soon.

5. That's good to hear
I think Nancy is pretty progressive to moderate. I'm glad she wasn't favorable to one or the other group because that is how a true leader should be. He/she shouldn't just listen to this group over that group. Look at the republican party because of how they did that with the fundies. In my opinion once Nancy took that leadership role she did the right thing. Her votes and leadership are all the proof I need she will be a fine House speaker and not whether or not she was with this group or that group. And also to the original poster I'm sure once she became House minority leader she was way too busy to be a part of any group as well.

6. Look again: Pelosi was a long time member until she became House Dem. leader:

<snip>

The House Democratic leader, Rep. Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco, has been a longtime caucus member. But as leader of all House Democrats, she has a policy of not belonging to any individual caucuses. Rather, she says she is concentrating on unifying Democrats of all stripes in their effort to take back the House, which Republicans won in 1994.
