Informal car honk polling |
|
Members of our local Peace group have been standing at a busy intersection in our midwest republican town every second friday for 6 months or so, holding "bring the boys home" signs and the like.
I made it last week for the first time, brought a full size American flag. The guy next to me had a sign that said "Honk - Troops Home".
The response was overwhelming. I was amazed at the volume and number of honks, thumbs ups, and smiles. A few catcalls, 2 or 3, in 45 minutes -- really almost nothing. The positive vibe was across the board, I'm talking truckers, pizza guys, soccer moms, you name it. Veterans of the monthly demo said the change was pronounced and dramatic. I think in my town, at least, this is a tipping moment.

1. Thanks, that's heartening. |

And fits the general sense of things, too.

3. I have similar experiences. |

When I go out and protest, our group gets a few hecklers, but far more honks & cheers of support.
I'd say our group is getting quite a few more supporting honks than the right-wing demonstrators across the street.
