Would these people have been elected were it not for the extremist pres we've got? I don't think so.

they're just codewords for "american" as far as he's concerned, devoid of any other meaning.
he's actually in favor of dictatorship, repression, governmental intrusion, etc.
but he recognizes the value in proclaiming these "meaningless" ideals.

It's the BIG LIE. Countries unite along lines of convenience not democracy. Look at China. The US in a perfect world would have nothing to do with this repressive regime but Bush can't get enough trade with China.
