1. This is the most disingenuous campaign around...
classic bait and switch. What a sleaze bag.

2. To my knowledge, this man has NEVER said
he's a republican. Unfortunately, there are alot of people who don't pay much attention and they may honestly think he is a Democrat.

4. I'll bet Rove doesn't want to ever hear the word "Republican" out of Steele's
two-sided mouth.

Not before Nov. 7, anyway.

5. Everyone in Maryland knows he's a Republican
And he's not getting much support from black people here. Of course there will be a few crossover voters, but not enough to give him the win.

11. Is that Joe Madison's show? I absolutely love him
If he hasn't been picked up for syndication around the country, he should be. That guy is great!

Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 09:36 AM by a kennedy
and his straw poll this morning had 30 votes against Steele and 2 for him. Joe only wanted people from the Maryland area to call in. (edit to correct spelling of name)

17. Joe needs to go national with his radio show
He is one of the preeminent African-American commentators in the country, right up there with Tavis Smiley.

Joe Madison is THE voice of black Washingtonians.

16. He just picked up the endorsement from some prominent
African American leaders in P.G. County. This is very short sighted of them in my opinion.

22. A political science prof on Washington Journal pointed out this AM
that endorsing Steele at this stage of the campaign will have very small effect, compared to what it might have been a month ago. He said this amounts to symbolism directed at the Maryland Democratic party leadership.

24. Yeah, but it still pisses me off...
I can understand having a beef with the Democratic Party, but publicly endorsing Steele like that is not very wise at this juncture. Prince George's County has one of the wealthiest and highest educated African-American populations in the country, they need to come out and be leaders on these issues instead of falling for this GOP horseshit.

25. Of course these guys are entitled to their opinions.
This just shows them up to be the non-leaders they really are, when you get right down to it.

21. Oh he definately is!
We have been saturated with ads showing Steele praising Bush and the Repub national convention in '04. Steele is great for Bush, but not for Maryland!!!!

If they abandon him, he is toast.

8. He is toast already.
The best he can come up with for a strategy is to try to fool people into thinking he's a Democrat? That is pathetic!

10. On Meet the Press this past Sunday
Russert brought this up and showed a bumper sticker with Steele Democrat on it. Steele again tried to wiggle out of it by asking if Russert had never heard of Reagan Democrats. Russert countered with saying that those bumper stickers had always said things like I'm a Reagan Democrat or Another Democrat for Reagan and that this phrasing was deceptive. Steele tried to make a joke of it - oh gee I've been outed - hey everybody I'm a Republican. And no - on any of the Steele ads I've seen or read he neither mentions that he is a Republican or what his positions are on anything. It's been up to Cardin's campaign to show Steele addressing the 2004 Republican convention and praising Bush or his quotes from interviews on different topics. For that Cardin has been negative while some people are going ga-ga over the Steele ad campaign where he says he likes puppies or that he understands people thinking Washington doesn't understand their concerns and he is a different kind of candidate, an outsider, who will stand up for the little people. I'm sure that Cardin will win, but there have been some Democrats who have endorsed Steele. Five Democratic members of the Prince George's County Council just came out and endorsed him and did a former Democratic County executive, although it may be more a "favorite son" thing, as Steele is a resident of Prince George's county.

14. Black Democrats Cross Party Lines To Back Steele For U.S. Senate
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/30/AR2006103001057.html

A coalition of black Democratic political leaders from Prince George's County led by former county executive Wayne K. Curry endorsed Republican Michael S. Steele's bid for the U.S. Senate yesterday.

The support from Curry, five County Council members and others barely a week before Election Day reflects their continued disappointment that the Democratic Party has no African American candidates at the top of the ticket and a sense that the county is being ignored, officials said.

20. I didn't know that the 5 PG county council members were black -
the Post Express (a small free paper put out by the Washington Post) article I read this morning only identified them as Democrats. Thank you for the Post article link. It is very interesting.

Let me know if this doesn't work for you. Sometimes eMailing
