Save the Republic: get out of the Middle East, and put Bush on trial.
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 10:17 AM by Tyler Durden
The only way to save the Republic: Put Bush and Cheney on trial.

As a nation, we have lost every last shred of credibility both at home and abroad that we ever had. We’re like a dirty old man, roaming the streets of a dying city looking for a hooker to use and not even pay. Our integrity is at zero and only idiots worse than the Republicans who blindly follow Bush would believe our shameless lies and propaganda.

As no man is an island, so with the world wide web/economy/information net, no nation can exist any longer in isolation. This is also true for being “King of the Hill”; we WILL get knocked off: it’s only a question of when.

We can save the situation and restore our position on the moral high ground. It won’t be easy or popular at home, but unless we are looking to try and profit from the other alternative, the decline of Western Civilization as we know it now, we can’t dodge the bullet. It must be done.

First thing: Get out of Iraq. A no brainer. And while we’re at it, get out of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and etcetera. The Middle East does much worse with us meddling than it does on its own. Very soon our country will pass Saddam Hussein’s tally for killing Iraqis; we may never get our dignity back from this war, but we have to try and get some integrity.

Second thing: Get out the God Damned Vote. If we are to survive a little longer as a Republic, we have to try everything from a tax credit to a voting lottery to make certain EVERYONE votes. Good Grief, BRAZIL had a statistical 100% turnout. It’s ILLEGAL not to vote there. Other countries do similar things. Time to get out the vote. Personally, I believe if we do, WE will win every time.

Third thing: IF we get back the congress, IMPEACH Bush. It has been demonstrated by everyone from the Lawyer’s Guild to the ACLU that Bush has violated so many laws that we look like Chile under Augusto Pinnocet. We have to at least make the effort. Did it run the Republicans out of office that they tried it with Clinton and failed? Nope. And we have got an unholy TON of evidence; so much that if the Republicans stall or block it, they will look like the Mafia fixing a jury. This may not be possible, unless we win BIG next week. Keep a good thought.

Last thing: IF we get back the Presidency, that President MUST strip Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al of their diplomatic immunity from INTERNATIONAL prosecution. If one of these bums sets one TOE outside of the country, it should be perfectly legal for them to be arrested and whisked off to The Hague. This would be much easier if we DO impeach and convict Bush; it would still be possible if we just impeach but don’t get the conviction. It would be hard to do if we get neither, but it doesn’t stop it from being the right thing to do.

Our Republic has a lifespan; it cannot live forever and will not live too much longer without RADICAL evolution. The Brits did it under King John and further under the Tudors up to the present day; it CAN be done. But we have to become a trustworthy and honest member of the international community to pull this off. That means do what’s right: like above.

If we don’t, we just speed up the process of our own eventual decline and fall.

1. I agree with the substance of what you say, but Pinochet
worked over CHILE, not Argentina.

2. Thanks. Had Argentina in my head.
Too many commercials for "Andrew Lloyd Weber 'Divas'"

3. I agree. Turn them over to the Iraqis.
Let them have Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the rest. I say put the Bushistas in orange jumpsuits and shackles and dump them out onto the streets of Baghdad.

We might offer an apology too, but I'd doubt that would have much effect as just giving them the perps.

8. WAY too quick.
The dock at the HAGUE is the only place the entire world will get their chance to spit on these war criminals the way they deserve.

5. Personally, I believe that also...
I'd just like to hope that something holds together for my kids.

Hope is fading....

6. ...and start a Manhattan/Apollo Project to develop alternative energies
right before we add a line to Medicare: "available to all eligible citizens of any age."

7. Goes without saying...
However, I'd say when the plane is crashing, we get the engines restarted, before we worry about making the gate on time.
