Can the Senate dems not show up to vote for Alito like the Texas democrats
went to Oklahoma a few years ago rather than vote to reconfigure voting districts?

Would Alito still get in with a majority of whoever is there to vote, or would the considered absence of the democrats stop the vote?

I mean it, what would happen?

2. The Senate has to have 2/3 present to vote
Otherwise, the Senate may be in session but can't vote on anything

3. If you are correct, isn't the idea of boycotting the vote a Plan B versus
the questionable success of a filibuster? The point will be made to the public and to the White House and the Republican National Committee.

4. Okay, so I am math impaired
2/3's of the Senate is greater than the 60 votes that is needed for cloture, no? So if we are a few votes shy of a fillibuster, but those that are in favor of a fillibuster are strong in their convictions, they could postpone the vote indefinetly.

Am I seeing this correctly?

6. It only takes 60 votes to invoke cloture
I don't see where 2/3 comes into play.

I also don't see why the Republicans couldn't invoke the nuclear option with a majority of those present.

7. 67 Senators have to be on the floor for any vote to take place
With a simple majority of 51, the Senate can conduct any proceedings, but you have to have at least 67 senators on the floor for any vote to come up.

34 Dems can simply walk out and boycott the Scalito nomination, at least theoretically. But Cat Killer would probably have them forcibly brought in despite the rule.

5. Brilliant!!! GO to CANADA!!
And go to Canada!!!!

My dad's cousin's wife is one of the Texas 11..... I was SOOOOOOOO very proud of her.... even though it failed and I got saddled with a Republican in my district because of it..... BUT, they didn't defeat my Congressman, he just moved to a different district and fended them off...

Sadly I don't think they would all be up for it. It would be a major Coup that if nothing else woudl show the country that the Republicans give Democrats no means to do their jobs.
