Why the religious right loves Bush but hates Clinton |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 12:35 PM by walldude
So my 13 year old nephew comes over to my house Saturday for a Halloween party. He's my brother-in-laws son. After my brother-in-law passed away last year his wife went from being Wiccan to being a church going fundie. So she drops my nephew off for the party and she pulls me aside. She asks me if I'm going to see the movie Saw III because he wants to see it and she would like me to report to her on whether there is any sex or nudity in the movie. After staring for a minute I had to ask. "You mean you will let him see it as long as there is no sex or nudity?" She said Yes. This in a nutshell is what we are up against. People who are so sexually repressed that they will let their child watch a movie with gratutious scenes of torture, violence and dismemberment, as long as they don't see a womans naked breast. It's no wonder they love Bush and hate Clinton. I wanna move to an island with no people on it.
Note: This is in no way a poke at horror films, I loved them as a kid and still occasionally enjoy being grossed out or scared shitless.

5. Apparently normal sex between consenting adults is. |

However, kinky sex with unwilling victims as partners seems to be okay with them.

2. Why don't you ask that very same question of your SiL? |
|
"You will let your 13 year old child watch a movie with gratuitous scenes of extreme violence, torture and dismemberment as long as there is no sex or nudity?"
The answer should be interesting.

13. I did miss that, sorry |

I was in shock at her asking the very question, I kind of glazed over the rest of the post.
Very, very sick. And the people being tortured and dismembered aren't even Christ! Maybe it is just something in the fundamentalist mentality; I'm not sure I want to know.

6. That's it in a nutshell. |
|
And I have never understood this mindset. I am not a parent, so I have no direct experience, but I would think nudity and sex would be much easier to explain to a child than violence. I was thinking about this very thing last night watching a "Cold Case" re-run, where they show the body of a 12 year old girl laying in a shallow river. It was horrible to watch, and I wondered how a parent would respond to the question, "why is that girl lying there?"
Odd priorities and values, if you ask me.

7. OH yes, the most perversely violent movie series EVER os OK for a 13yo |
|
as long as there's no sex or nudity. THAT would be bad.
You have just stared at the face of Evil. Go take a long shower.
And then tell the boy, "all that killing and torture isn't healthy for you. Here, let's watch some hot chicks getting healthily banged instead. You tell momma what she wants to hear."

9. This happened to me when my kids were younger |
|
One of the big hit sci-fi movies came out on video (can't remember the name), and I asked the vid store clerk if it was appropriate for a 10 and 12 year old. He said I probably shouldn't get it because it had a shower scene in which one of the female characters used a common shower with the men. "No," I said, "I don't care about a shower scene...I'm talking about the violence. How bad is it, really?" He assured me it was nothing, just sci-fi. I rented it, the kids put it on and I went to the next room to make some popcorn or something. When I came back there were aliens' cutting people's skulls open and ripping out their brains. All manner of dismemberment and disemboweling. I had never seen anything so horrible! The clerk thought THAT was cool for a 10 year old -- just don't let him see a woman showering.
You're right...this is one fucked up country.

and yeah...the nudity is non-sexual. That was the point of the scene (that women and men were equals in that world).
And yes, the movie is horribly violent.
On edit: LOL....someone already beat me to the punch

and I got asked this question all the time. Hostel, Saw...whatever. Parents only cared about sex scenes or nudity (if they cared at all).

11. torture, violence and dismemberment! Where is Rummy! |
|
See here is the deal! If the kids watch torture, violence and dismemberment they will feel that torture is A-OK! But sex implies love which is totally hippy commy and thus no good!

20. In terms of number of violent acts, the Family Channel |
|
Used to (and maybe still does) rank as the most violent channel ever when Pat Robertson was more in charge of it. Of course, many of the shootings/killings were the bloodless kind that you would see in old westerns where the guy would get shot, wince, crumple up his body, then fall forward/fall off a balcony/slump in his horse - except for the ones that would get shot and thrown back 5 feet through a storefront window. :)

I'd rather that kids see nudity than most violent action movies. They imitate that violence.
