Democrats should see major pick ups in Governor Races (predict gain of 7)
The Republicans have held a majority of state houses since their 1994 landslide, but that should change this year.

Currently the GOP leads Democrats 28-22 among the nations governors. This has been a big help to them in redistricting.

36 states are holding Governor elections next Tuesday.

The GOP will probably hold the following Governorships:
Hawaii
Nebraska
South Dakota
Vermont
Texas
California (that's the biggest blow)
Alabama
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
Idaho
Nevada
Rhode Island
Total: 13

The Democrats will probably retain the following Governorships:
Oregon
Wisconsin
Michigan
Maine
Illinois
Pennsylvania
Kansas
Arizona
Wyoming
Tennessee
New Mexico
New Hampshire
Oklahoma
Arizona
Total: 14

The Democrats will probably pick up Governorships in the following states from Republicans:
New York--almost a certainty
Ohio--ditto
Massachusetts
Colorado
Maryland
Arkansas

Net Democratic gain: six

The GOP will probably pick up Dem governorship: zero

These states are too close to call:
Iowa
Minnesota
Alaska

Iowa is currently a Democratic Governorship and Minnesota and Alaska are held by the GOP. My gut tells me that Minnesota will switch to Hatch and Iowa will stay Democratic with Culver. I think that despite a late charge by Knowles in Alaska that the GOP will retain Alaska.

So my prediction is that Democrats will have a net gain of 7 governorships in this election bringing out total up to 29 with the GOP falling to 21.

3. I agreed with that assessment
Hatch will win in Minnesota and Culver in Iowa and Alaska will go to the GOP.

2. I agree with your assessment
I think Minnesota and Iowa will go for Hatch and Culver, and Alaska, unfortunately will probably go for Palin (despite her complete and utter lack of experience). I thought Rhode Island might have been a dem pickup too, but Carcieri seems to be pulling away. Although a big Dem wave WRT Whitehouse might flip it our way.
