Are conservatives afraid of being challenged?
I HAD this friend who I used to enjoy regular discussions with over ideas, current events, politics yada yada yada. When webblogs like Xanga came out, she put out a webblog, and would discuss why she supported some of her conservative beliefs.

As the election of 2004 approached, I started replying to some of her posts and would tell her why I disagreed. I like to think that it was never personal, but not long after these "blog wars" started to get pretty heated.

We had a falling out, and that was the end of it. We don't speak anymore.

But I decide to check out her blog to see what else is going on with her and I find that she's locked it out to only invited blog viewers. No one can see her entries unless she allows them to.

I assure you, my posts were never about belittlement, or ridicule. I wanted to just put up a reasonable challenge.

I guess I'm a bit dissapointed, this is a person who "allegedly" enjoyed being challenged and discussing things. Now it seems like she's afraid of what people will say about what she has to say.
Does this sound like the conservative mentalities you've encountered? The "I just don't want to hear it" excuse?

1. No conservatives are more afraid of
aging hippies, mourning mothers, and people with serious incurable illnesses.

Sorry for the snarky response to your serious post. But this is one of those thoughts I have had for a while, that for being all tough on crime, the poor, terrorists, communists, etc., they sure are really scared of some of the meekest amongst us.

2. Being challenged leaves open the possibility of them being wrong.
And BOY they don't like it when they're proven wrong. Authoritarian personalities are like that, you know. They also cling to fascist beliefs.

4. Seems the range of issues they want to discuss are Repuke in nature.
That would not be an open to anyone forum. Like the DU. Nothing wrong with that. Except that it is repuke and likely believes its own shit. They certainly do need a little light. But her choice if it is her message board.

I for one would never want to see the DU change. And allow in Repuke talking points. Cause that just makes me want to hurl.

Sorry about the friendship. Perhaps you will reconnect on the flip side of this all.
