Getting desperate, or simply more desperate?

President Bush zigzagged from Georgia to his home state of Texas today, stumping for Republicans in Bush-friendly districts while looking ever more like the candidate himself. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/30/washington/30cnd-bush.html?_r=1&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&adxnnlx=1162318574-qCqqP0zSFmKByFsZ/itkCg

Bush: "The Democrat approach on Iraq comes down to this: The terrorists win and America loses." http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nationworld/iraq/bal-te.bush31oct31,0,4068147.story?coll=bal-nationworld-headlines

Webb leads Allen in Va. race. With a week to go in a key race that could determine control of the Senate, according to a poll released Tuesday. The U.S. Department of Defense is creating a Public Affairs "rapid response team" to respond to what it sees as unfair or inaccurate coverage. Many of the additional staff at the Pentagon Public Affairs Office will be dedicated to booking television news appearances for DOD officials and their representatives, and to trying to convince reporters and newspapers to cover the stories that the Pentagon wants to see more of. http://www.upi.com/SecurityTerrorism/view.php?StoryID=20061030-045619-3177r

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Tuesday ordered the lifting of joint U.S.-Iraqi military checkpoints around the Shiite militant stronghold of Sadr City and other parts of Baghdad - another apparent move to assert his authority with the Americans and appeal to his Shiite support base. The move came amid more violence, including a car bombing that killed at least 11 members of a wedding party, and the kidnappings of several dozen people outside Baghdad. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15493909/
COUNTDOWN CLINTON EXCLUSIVE

Remember that contentious interview Chris Wallace did with Bill Clinton? We know have an exclusive tidbit about what happened behind the scenes.

That's some of what we're planning for tonight's show.

Finally,
AMERICUS, Ga. -- So many bats have infested the town's historic district that the sky turns black with each sunset and the neighborhood is calling on Batman to come to the rescue. That's what the local bat remover goes by. George Perkins often makes public appearances in the caped crusader's costume and drives his own Batmobile - a retro-styled Chrysler Prowler with bat emblems. Callers to his office in Eufaula, Ala., known as Bat Cave 1, or Union Springs, Ala., known as Bat Cave 2, hear the "Batman" TV show theme while on hold. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/B/BAT_BANE?SITE=NWCN&TEMPLATE=STRANGEHEADS.html&SECTION=HOME
Anyway... Happy Halloween

North Korea agreed Tuesday to rejoin six-nation disarmament talks, China and the United States said, in a surprise breakthrough three weeks after Pyongyang conducted its first nuclear test. A U.S. envoy said the negotiations could resume as early as November. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15494100/

House Speaker Dennis Hastert is expected by many Republicans to step aside as the GOP's leader if Democrats win big in next week's election. He may be on his way out even if the GOP emerges with a narrow majority. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15495949/

After years of debate, NASA Administrator Mike Griffin gave the go-ahead on Tuesday for what could be one of the space shuttle program's most dramatic missions: a final repair visit to the Hubble Space Telescope. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15489217/
