Ok, I need help. Since the Video forum was added, everytime I go to |
|
the 'Latest Discussions' Page 1, I get a pop-up box asking to run Active-X. If I hit OK, the Quicktime logo up on the right hand side 'breaks' apart. What's the problem? I have Quicktime 6.5.2 installed on this MS XP system.

Do you only get it on the Latest Page? Or do you also get it on the DU homepage, and when you visit a video thread?
Is anyone else getting this problem?

if I select a thread and then 'go back' to the latest page, it pops up.

Do you get this problem when you visit YouTube and watch a video? For example, do you get that message when you view this page: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbIOPkWLhh4?

I get the Quicktime "Q" symbol with a question mark in it and I can't see the videos. I posted a thread on this yesterday, worked all afternoon trying to fix it and still have no idea what to do.
Edited to add: YouTube is fine, Quicktime movie trailers are fine too.

12. YouTube is fine, the DU links are not |
|
I can see the YouTube video fine, Conrad Burns. The DU pages are fine, but the Quicktime part is not. Quicktime has the "Q" symbol with a question mark in it and the video will not run. I don't get the Active-X message.

20. This is what is confusing me. |
|
There is no "quick time" part on DU.
Repeating the question: Do all three of the pages linked in my post work properly? If not, which page(s) does not work?

22. All of the DU pages that have videos have the Quicktime issue for me |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 04:33 PM by oregonjen
I'm sorry if I'm not explaining it clearly. On a thread that includes a video, in the spot where the video is located, I'm seeing the Quicktime "Q" symbol with a question mark in it. The video does not run for me. However, if there is a thread with a link to YouTube, I can click on the link and view the video. Does that make sense?

popping up when I installed the latest version of it. After I un-installed RealPlayer, I haven't had that message pop-up.

17. Try getting the latest version of QT |
|
they are up to 7.13 I think.. If you are using IE you can also update the ActiveX components of QT and RealPlayer like so:
Open Internet Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Manage Add-ons. In the Show box, click the arrow and select Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer. In the list of add-ons, click the add-on you want to update, and then click Update ActiveX.

My security settings block active x here. They are not needed to view video clips. My clips are viewed with the embedded app "Flash player 9" within the Explorer browser (you need to un-install old flash player--or at least I did--prior to updating to Flash 9). One other cause for your problem is that Quick-time can be quite invasive. It wants to be default program on everything... and it does not perform all "viewer" tasks equally well. ie. Win Media Player or Flash have their uses. This you may need to go to QTime preferences and change them. I can re-post and guide you thru if you need help. Let me know :hi:

Go Start> Control panel> double click Quicktime icon. Should have QT preferences box pop up Select "Browser" tab and uncheck 2 playback boxes(play movies auto, and enable kiosk mode). Then click on MIME settings. Deselct all checked boxes. Now click on + sign for "Video". Select only "Quick time movie"... should be 1st and 3rd boxes. Click OK and then Apply and restart computer. Hope this works for you. Active X message may still pop up under address bar but video control should be avaiable immediately for playing clips without he QT ? mark. I'll check back in a bit.

I trust that you are using MS op system and Internet Explorer and have Flash player 9 or higher installed. In browser go to Tools> Internet options> Advanced tab... scroll to multi-media and ensure under Multimedia that all boxes are checked except "show image download place holders". Use "apply" button.

and now I get the logo with the question mark. Still won't run. However, everything works fine from my home computer which doesn't even have QuickTime installed!
