MSNBC POLL: Were Sen. John Kerry's remarks ...appropriate?
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/15501072/

Were Sen. John Kerry's remarks linking education to the war in Iraq appropriate?

Yes; the military has long been a step up for those with less education.

No; the comments implied that service members are not intelligent.

They were misinterpreted or taken out of context.

20. Damn right. How about YES, because they were the damn TRUTH?
Instead of these shitty choices:

Yes; the military has long been a step up for those with less education.

No; the comments implied that service members are not intelligent.

They were misinterpreted or taken out of context.

People need to face some ugly, mean and genuine facts. The military is so short handed they are SOCIALLY PROMOTING EVERYONE--who here in the service has seen EVERYONE on the 0-4 and 0-5 lists make the cut? Well, it's happening now! Usually, in competitive times, they cull out the lower twenty percent at a MINIMUM to keep a quality force. The leaders of the future military are going to be peppered with low quality personnel because of the shitty way BushCo have prosecuted this war.

The military is also recruiting people with mental, physical and character defects, along with criminals, white supremacists, and people who are frankly, STUPID. Boot camp, where they'd wash out or recycle the bottom ten to twenty percent in competitive times, is a fucking lark where you have a VERY HARD time not getting through it--at a time when servicemembers most need training, they're getting the least training possible.

It's criminal what BushCo is doing to the military--he's RUINING it, and the effects will be felt for a decade or more after this insanity is stopped, because they are promoting these substandard people willy-nilly. If you do the time, you move up the ladder, regardless of qualifications.

In the long run, here's what will happen down the line: If you joined the military before BushCo came to power, it will be ASSUMED that you are a high-quality recruit and you'll have an easier time in terms of assignments and promotions. If you joined AFTER BushCo, you will be looked at a bit more carefully when it comes time to assign you to that great job, or promote you if they ever get back into "force shaping" mode--hell, they'll be re-scruitinizing your initial enlistment documents at every phase of your career.

Because the ranks are so infested with marginal types, the stain has spread to all of them--and that's a damn shame.

15. Split the Pro-Kerry vote
There are two answers that are pro-Kerry; added together, they made a slight majority (52%, when I voted).

But the "No" vote looms larger, because all the anti-Kerry voters chose it.

18. I find it hard to believe a person could be in the military and be so
damn sensitive to insults.

It's not the military that it insulted, it is the armchair military.
