Pelosi: 'President Bush Has Failed Our Troops in Iraq in So Many Ways'

WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on President Bush's failed Iraq policy and the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform:

"The men and women of our armed forces are our country's bravest and most patriotic representatives. Their choice to serve in the military is something for which all of us should be proud and forever grateful.

"President Bush, who has failed our troops in Iraq in so many ways, should at least have the decency not to use them in a desperate attempt to rescue his rubber stamp Republican Congress. Rather than crisscross the country at taxpayers' expense campaigning for Republicans who have been complicit in his Iraq failure, President Bush should be devising policies that will work. That would be an appropriate response to the sacrifices our troops have made, and continue to make, in a war to which the President committed them without a plan for bringing them home. It is time for a new direction in Iraq."

Reid: Americans Reject Bush's Failed Policies on Iraq

WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid today spoke out against the President's failed leadership on Iraq.

"The President's stump speech gets more and more desperate by the day. It's clear that he has his back up against the wall with the upcoming election, and for good reason. The American people are rejecting his failed policies in Iraq and the war on terror, and are looking for a new direction. Instead of lashing out on the campaign trail, the President should be reaching out for a new policy in Iraq, where our troops are caught in the middle of a civil war. If we want a new direction, it is clear we need new congressional leadership who will stand up to this President and demand a new way forward. Republicans haven't done it. Democrats will."
