4. It's not just you. What's Vietnam got to do with buying a Chevy?
Or Katrina? Or the Civil Rights movement? Just more horseshit.

8. I've never bought a John Mellen Cougarcamp record, tape or CD,,
and I'll never buy a Chevy Truck. A guy that can't make up his mind what he wants to be called and a company that shits all over it's employees. What's to decide?

9. This is the one that pissed me off.

What do any of these things have to do with Chevy?

I'd sue the bastards for using my relative's image for commercial purposes.

10. What Chevy's saying is...
if Rosa Parks had just bought a Chevy, we never would have needed to go through that bus nonsense.

13. Maybe the bus was a Chevy?
OK. OK. Bad joke. I'll apologize now.

I've seen the commercial and I think it is suppose to appeal to baby boomers. That's my take on it. Not well thought out, though.

I wouldn't put the blame on John Cougar. He probably didn't know what images would be used in the commercial.

11. This ad is proof GM doesn't know what the hell it's doing
You can tell what a new truck looks like, especially if you see as many trucks as I do.

For about the past year...maybe year and a half...I've loaded very, very few new Chevrolets. Lots of new Fords. Lots of new Dodges. Very few new Chevrolets. The current trucks from Ford and Dodge simply offer the truck consumer more for his money than does the current Chevrolet. (I know someone's going to jump in here and scream about how wonderful Chevrolet pickups are. They may well be, but I don't see many of them coming in to buy stuff from me. Fords? Dodges? Quite a few.)

This is a new Chevrolet pickup--and by extension, a new GMC pickup is also on the market. (GMCs are trimmed differently from Chevrolets, but they're the same truck.) Why should I buy this truck instead of a Ford F-150 or a Dodge Ram 1500? What new features attract my attention? Can it carry my loads farther and faster on the same amount of fuel? Is there anything on this truck to please the contractor? The landscaper? How about trailering? Why is this Silverado better than the last one you tried to get me to buy? Tell me. Please? Rosa Parks can't tell me. She's not with us anymore, and she looked like a Ford person to me anyway.

When you buy a truck, they make you sign a promissory note for over thirty thousand dollars. Why should my thirty thousand dollars go to GM instead of Ford or DaimlerChrysler?

That's what I want to know. That's not what pictures of Rosa Parks and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina are telling me.

I write this because threads about this atrocious ad pop up occasionally. You're right...why would I look at a picture of a devastated neighborhood, a lost war or a murdered civil rights leader and think "I must spend money to have this!" Especially when you have to make payments on "this" for six years, and it comes from a company whose reputation for high quality merchandise is...let's call it "checkered."
