Let's not forget to thank Kerry
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 06:38 PM by huskerlaw
He's going to be taking some serious heat for the foreseeable future. Let him know you appreciate what he's doing.

Yes, I know he's doing his job and we should merely be able to expect this from our Dem senators. But obviously we can't take it for granted. He's taking one for the team today and the least we can do is let him know we're behind him.

So...what do you say? Help balance out the hate mail? Send him an email, pick up the phone, drop him a fax. Just say THANK YOU.

10. That's damn straight.
Except, screw that "he's only doing his job and we should be able to expect it" crap. He's really gone out on a limb here. As I just posted in the Kerry forum--a place all of you who can now see the light about him are welcome anytime if you would like to get the rest of the FACTS about what kind of a statesman Kerry REALLY is--you wanted it? You got it. NOW STOW IT. NOT TO MENTION: SUPPORT IT. Hope it somehow works. And show some respect for the man who stepped up to deal with your ultimatums address your concerns even though relatively few of you here have ever conceded that he (or any of the TRUE liberals too many DUers are fond of casually insulting) had strength, compassion or foresight.

E-mail? Fax? HOWS ABOUT ACTUAL LETTERS, TELEGRAMS, PHONE CALLS and SERIOUS THOUGHT TO, GEE, I DON'T KNOW, ACTUALLY DOING YOUR PART TO GET HIM IN THE WHITE HOUSE NEXT TIME?!

He's done his part, and then some. MAKE SURE YOU DO YOURS.

12. I'm not at all trying
to diminish what he did for us today. My point merely was that he shouldn't be the ONLY ONE doing it. We should be able to expect others to join him.

I completely agree that now we need to put our support where our mouths are. Those of us who have been screaming for the Dems to do something had better damn well remember who did.

And they better thank him for it.

16. Well, at least you started this thread and can recognize his sacrifice.
It just makes me ill to think that there are some here with an attitude that is, "thanks for putting your re-election future White House bid on the line, even if it was the least you could do in my eyes." As if there were others willing to do it. And as if that's a sane or valid form of gratitutde.

18. I get what you're saying
I wish we were in a situation where that was the least we could expect. But we're not. Which, frankly, makes his actions all the more admirable, IMO.

27. Don't pay those people any mind
Kerry did a great thing today, even if he doesn't end up getting enough people to help him sustain the filibuster, he tried. More than you can say for anybody else's hero right now. Just like in 2004, everyone knew whoever ran against Bush in that race was literally walking into the line of reicht wing christo fascist fire and Kerry did it. His country needed him and he stepped up. He's a great man. Don't let people who can't or won't see that get to you.

14. I was actually sick when I saw that he's filibustering. It means every Dem
pundit will be attacking his integrity for the next 3 years. They will be just as bad as the GOP media and spokepeople.

Kerry had to know they would turn on him viciously, ALL OF THEM, and he did it anyway.

17. Yeah, I know. And watch the haters try to ignore what this says
about Kerry's concern for American citizens, even those who only voted for him because he wasn't Bush, and to whom, in my opinion, he does not owe this kind of sacrifice.

33. if nothing else, I would say it's a sign of someone who gives a shit,
his campaign wasn't abominable either. he should have done more about the swifites, but maybe he just figured that americans weren't fucking stupid enough to believe any of that drivel. maybe he just figured americans could understand what the fuck he was saying even if he wasn't saying it in 5 second soundbytes. apparently, he thought wrong. i guess if there is a next time around for him, he will figure out how to be someone that the average american wants to drink a beer with. then he can close the deal.
