Attention callers: Be honest! Don't lie about your residency |
|
DU phone warriors:
When the office staff ask you for your zip code, please don't lie. If you're calling Byrd but you're not a West Virginian, don't try to say that you are. The same goes for all the Senators. Caller ID will bust right through your attempts to give them a bogus zip code you looked up on the internet, and they may not record your call if you lie about your residency.
All you have to say is that you're a concerned American/Democrat/whatever makes you comfortable and that since this is a national issue over which the Senator has taken a public stance, you feel it is imperative to call even though you're from out of state. Honesty will make sure they put your call down in the "against" column. Also, don't be disappointed if the staff can't/won't answer questions. Anybody could be a troll or a reporter, so they have to be tight lipped. Despite your frustration, please be nice to the staffers. Foaming-at-the-mouth rants won't get you any farther than just stating your position.

2. God, yes. That would make a juicy MSM article -- |
|
misrepresentation by the "liberals." I also strongly agree about being polite, even friendly, to staffers.

I told the staffer that I was from another state, and the lady was very polite. She didn't dismiss my call at all...
We don't need to lie. Be sincere. Tell the truth...

They should at least hear a couple of sentences of what you have to say.

was not advocating calling every senator and claiming that you're from their state. My post was in response to someone who said they were hung up on by Landrieu's office after stating they were not from Louisiana.
By all means, start out being completely honest. If they ask you where you're from (which nearly all of the ones I called did), yes, certainly tell them the truth.
However. If the truth is followed by the sound of a phone hanging up, I think it's legitimate to call them back and try another route. It is not right for them to refuse to hear a view from anyone outside their constituency. This is a vote for the next justice to the United States Supreme Court. We all have a right to be heard by each and every Senator.
